Mrs. Sparks is beginning her 29th year of teaching. She taught 2 years in a multi-age 1st, 2nd, 3rd  grade class  in the Washington Elementary School District.  Then 11 years in a 1st/2nd Grade Loop Program at Cherokee Elementary.  After completing her Physical Education Certification she worked in Physical Education for 14 years. This will be her 2nd year in Elementary Art at DCES. She earned an Associate Degree from Jackson Community College (MI),  a BAE from ASU, an MAE in Early Childhood from ASU, and 18 credits towards a  Masters in Physical Education at ASU.  She is (ELL) English as A Second Language Endorsed, and has completed several hours of Gifted Education. She earned her K-12 Art Endorsement in 2022. She is a National Board Certified Teacher.  Mrs. Sparks received 3 Scottsdale Charros Outstanding Educator Awards at Cherokee Elementary 1999-2000 (Regular Education), Redfield Elementary 2011-12 (Physical Education), and Desert Canyon Elementary 2015-16 (Physical Education).  She volunteered for the American Heart Association's Jump Rope for Heart Program for 10 years, where she won several top fundraising awards and 2 Outstanding Volunteer Awards in 2014-15 and 2016-17. She was named the 2019-20 AZHPE Elementary P.E. Teacher of the Year.
