About Me

I am a native of the Peninsula. I grew up in Newport News with my mother who was an English teacher at Menchville High School and my father who was the principal of Dozier Middle School. After graduating from Denbigh High School, I attended Old Dominion University and later graduated from Christopher Newport University earning a BA in English with a Language Arts Concentration.

My Background in Education

This year will be my first year teaching in Surry but I’m no rookie. This year marks my 15th year teaching; previously, I taught high school for 14 years. I have taught 9th, 10th and 11th grade English at all levels. I have also taught Public Speaking, Yearbook and a variety of SOL programs and SAT prep classes. I have coached Forensics for many years and hope to start a VHSL Forensics team at Surry High next year.

On a Personal Level

I have two amazing children- a 25 yr old son and a 24 yr old daughter as well as a terrific step daughter and step son. My family lives in Williamsburg, where we have 5 dogs and 10 hedgehogs (I breed hedgehogs in my spare time).
