A CULTURAL🫀FOR MERCATORPLEIN
Supermercator has long been the under-the-radar living room of Mercatorplein; a cultural meeting place where people come together to enjoy music, poetry, film, art, debate and all kinds of glorious cross-pollination. Through the years we have been reluctant to become either commercial or conceptual, as we feel that there are few spaces left in the city that are genuinely open to any kind of experiment and collaboration.
In order to keep Supermercator a place of the people and make it sustainable for a long time to come, we want turn it into a daily café, serving breakfast and lunch.
We want to build a diverse and thoughtfully run kitchen.
This kitchen will be the foundation of our daily café, with an affordable daily meal for those on a tight budget, alongside a more varied menu for those who want to explore a little more.
The Supermercator Café will be our backbone, which allows us to program our cultural- and community focussed events as broad and accessible as we want them to be and feel is needed.
We cannot do this alone. To turn a warm dream into a lasting reality we need your contribution. You can all help to build Supermercator Café together, as it is not just a physical space but a collective effort to nurture connection, expression and creativity. Together we can build a place where everyone feels welcome, where people discover eachother, share their talents and grow together, one meal, one conversation, one project at a time.
On October 23rd we are launching our crowdfundingcampaign in collaboration with Voor De Kunst's City, Company and Crowd programme, with the premiere of our campaign film featuring Ezra van Hamelen and a fine back-to-back vinyl-set by Radikal Rupert and Abelix.
