Mrs. Hatten

Montana Rural Teacher of the Year 2023

National Rural Teacher Runner-up

Welcome to Mrs. Hatten's classroom page!

Personal:  I moved to Montana with my husband, Jeff, and our three children, Tiara, Tessa, and Leland in 1997 in pursuit of a dream of living in Montana.  Coming from Nebraska, we knew we were in for an adventure of raising our family here in such a beautiful place with wonderful new friends.  Our kids are all grown now, but luckily for us, we still get to spend a lot of quality time together.  I love to float the Blackfoot River, hike with others, and visit Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park as often as I can.  If there's a challenge, I love to try.  My most recent challenge was climbing the Manitou Springs Incline which is a 69 percent grade of climbing 2768 stairs up a mountain at a high altitude in Colorado.  I suprise myself sometimes of what I can do with support from others and lots of perseverance, a motto I share with my students.

Professionally:  I went back to school at the University of Montana in 2006 after working as a paraprofessional at Seeley Lake Elementary.  I graduated in 2011 with my teaching degree in hand and quickly became Sunset School's Supervising Teacher my first year.  Sunset only had one student at the time, but it has steadily increased in enrollment and now has a second teacher and a full time paraprofessional.  Sunset School is a dream teaching position. I get to teach in a small classroom setting  with a small group of students. It's perfect! I love getting to know my students' strengths, learning needs and passions, as well as, creating positive relationships with each of them and their families.  It is those relationships that make teaching fun and rewarding.
