PE & Health
Hello Royal Oaks Rockets and Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 Physical Education and Health school year. All students, Kindergarten - 5th grade will be participating in PE during the entire school year. 4th and 5th Grade students will also have health education. 4th grade has health during Semester 1 and 5th grade during Semester 2. Currently, all of our PE and health lessons are taught via seesaw during distance learning.
Here is an Overview of our PE and Health areas of focus for this year.
Physical Education
We will be working on a variety of skills over the course of distance learning. Your Rockets will be working on throwing with proper technique, catching in several different ways, kicking techniques, different movements of the body, along with different fitness activities! All of the activities we will be doing will be watched and graded just like we would be doing in the gym. We are looking for completing the assignments, performing the skills how we describe them and if we need to send them back with something to fix that they fix it and send it back to us corrected. Just like we would do for their regular PE class. We have a number of fun activities for the students that maybe even the parents/guardians will enjoy participating in!
Health
We have started this fall with 4th graders for health. Our topics for the semester include: Personal health and wellness, importance of sleep, Bike safety, First aid and safety, Nutrition, Hygiene and Human growth and development. 5th graders will have health 2nd semester and will cover: Personal Health and wellness, Medicine safety, tobacco and alcohol awareness, Human growth and development and First Aid and Safety. All topics will include emphasis on health literacy( knowledge of health related content), decision making and goal setting. Further information about our Human Growth and Development units will be shared with families later this fall (4th grade) and spring (5th Grade). About Us:
Mr. Whelan is in his 3rd year of teaching PE and Health at Royals Oaks. He is a Sun Prairie grad in 2010 and went to Royal Oaks for some of his Elementary school years!
Ms. Gerber has been teaching Health and Physical Education in the Sun Prairie school district since 2002. She has traveled between Horizon and Royal Oaks for 3 years.
Mr. Headington has been with the Sun Prairie school district since 1997 and has taught on and off at Royal Oaks since 1999. He is a traveling teacher for PE and Health. His time is split between Royal Oaks and Northside Elementary schools.
