Social Justice

at Sunol Glen

Sunol Glen acknowledges the pain and anger that communities of color are experiencing as our nation deals with the impact of systemic racism and police brutality. We stand in solidarity with our Black students, their families and the entire African American community in condemning the killings of George Floyd, Amaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, David McAtee, Daunte Wright, and the innumerable others from the Black community who have suffered or lost their lives as a result of this brutality. We mourn for each and every Black life shortened by the individual and institutional racism that persists in our country and denounce racialized violence in all its forms. We recognize the culture of oppression that has existed in our nation since its inception that has led to countless Black lives lost unlawfully and inhumanely.

We further acknowledge our history of complicity in racism within our culture. We vow to do better and recognize we must do better. We will re-examine our own conduct and values to assure that the dignity of all marginalized communities is central to our mission. We pledge to provide an equitable and safe environment that embraces everyone in our community with compassion, and when that pledge falls short, to listen and act with respect. We promise to work toward a brighter future where Black and Brown lives are no longer marginalized.

Black Lives Matter

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States has coincided with a dramatic rise in racist anti-Asian hate incidents. The latest report from Stop AAPI Hate has revealed that nearly 3,800 reports of anti-Asian incidents have occurred over the past year and this week in Georgia, we saw anti-Asian violence escalate to the point that eight people were murdered, six of whom were Asian women.

The Sunol Glen School District is saddened and angered by the increase in acts of violence and racist incidents. We are committed to promoting inclusivity, diversity, racial and social justice and condemn all xenophobic attacks, violence and harassment. We stand in unity with our Asian American families and remain committed to supporting all groups who contribute to the wonderful and vibrant diversity that makes our community so special.
