Occupational Therapy is, at its core, a holistic and client-centered profession. At Sunny Blossom Therapy, we look beyond a child’s individual skills or challenges and consider the whole child—including their physical, emotional, social, sensory, and personal well-being. Every part of a child’s experience can influence how they participate, connect, learn, and thrive.
When we begin working together, we take the time to understand the many layers of your child’s world. We create a comprehensive picture of who your child is today, including their strengths, interests, joys, current abilities, challenges, and areas where additional support may be helpful. Therapeutic priorities and detailed clinical observations are incorporated into this individualized picture.
Our assessment process looks beyond developmental skills alone. We consider factors that can influence your child’s daily participation and overall well-being, including:
Family history and family dynamics
Play skills and interests
Social participation and peer interactions
Sensory preferences and responses
Emotional regulation and responses to challenges
Attention and participation in everyday activities
Transitions and responses to changing demands
Strengths, motivations, and sources of joy
Family traditions, cultural background, and values
Spiritual or religious practices, when meaningful to the family
Caregivers are an essential part of this process. You know your child best, and your perspective helps us create a more complete understanding of your child and the environment in which they live, learn, and grow.
Our approach is holistic by design. We use play, movement, sensory experiences, creativity, connection, and relationship-based therapeutic strategies to help children feel safe, engaged, and supported during therapy.
When appropriate and with caregiver consideration, we may incorporate calming or sensory-based experiences such as music, singing bowls, tuning forks, or aromatherapy. These approaches are used thoughtfully, in a child-friendly and developmentally appropriate manner, and are intended to complement—not replace—evidence-informed occupational therapy interventions.
Children may benefit from OT when they experience challenges with:
Emotional regulation — big feelings, meltdowns, frustration, or difficulty with change
Sensory processing — sensitivity or differences in responses to sound, touch, smells, movement, or other sensory experiences
Attention and participation — difficulty staying engaged or completing everyday tasks
Transitions — difficulty moving between activities or adapting to changes and increased demands
Social participation — challenges developing friendships, playing with peers, or navigating social situations
Stress and emotional overload — becoming overwhelmed by everyday experiences or demands
Our mission is to help each child grow with confidence, connection, and joy while honoring the individual qualities that make them uniquely themselves.
We partner with families to create meaningful, individualized support that helps children participate more fully in the activities, relationships, and experiences that matter most to them.
In today’s world, cultural expectations are shifting faster than ever before, and these changes are creating significant barriers to children’s healthy development. Young children are now expected to mature quickly—sitting still for long periods, mastering social rules, and completing written work—all before the age of five.
For many children, these demands feel overwhelming. Parents are witnessing more frequent meltdowns, shutdowns, and emotional struggles, leaving families feeling stressed and uncertain.
At Sunny Blossom Therapy, we understand these challenges. We are here to support your child in building the skills they need to thrive, while also empowering you as a parent to feel confident and successful in your role. Together, we can nurture growth, resilience, and joy.

Play is the heart of our therapy - and the magic behind your child's progress. Every session is intentionally playful to spark joy, build trust, and help your child meet their goals with confidence.
Ever wonder what an Occupational Therapist session would look like, in your own home, for your child?
This video covers a session held by our Occupational Therapist Specialist at Sunny Blossom Therapy. This is a 60-minute session condensed into an 8-minute video clip. The Occupational Therapist starts off by working on building the child's hand muscles by having him clip-on clothespins, and later push and pull golf tees in/out of clay and a foam block. Ultimately, by strengthening the child's hand, he will be able to write and type for longer periods of time as demands for this skill in his classroom increases. The child is also working on improving his management of time, attention, and focus on tasks. When told he is working under a timer, the child is much more willing to initiate and engage in his work. He is also given the opportunity to work on the carpet where he can freely move his body around prior to doing seated work at the table, where he is required to remain calm and still in one spot. Praising the child builds his motivation to participate and having the opportunity to self-reflect with the use of rewards and stickers builds his internal motivation and desire to participate in adult-directed tasks. Coping skills and strategies are embedded in this lesson, as the child learns coping skills that are written on a card found behind the tissue paper. Notice how lessons are not solely taught just by talking to the child, but are learned through play and games. Making this session fun and engaging!
Here is another OT lesson with Sunny Blossom Therapy. The child just finished watching a video on “Pout Pout Fish,” a fish with many emotions, including sadness and fear. He then transitioned to spinning a wheel, peeling off the images where the wheel landed, and recalling the sequence of events of those images, whether they occurred in the beginning or ending of the story. The child then made a craft of the main character and completed a worksheet relating to a time and place where he felt feelings similar to the fish, all to help solidify the story and its message. Notice we use kinesthetic learning in our lessons, where active learning takes place through movement, changing positions frequently, and interacting with the environment. The session then changed course to whole body listening skills, by incorporating a prize punch box in the lesson, making it much more motivating and effective way to learn. What fun activities have you incorporated with your children recently to make learning lessons fun and engaging?
