I will be updating this page as we receive questions from parents/families/caregivers/students. We look forward to hearing from you. To ask a question that may be added to the FAQ page follow this link.
How will you communicate with parents? I use Class Dojo for all of my communication. I frequently send out reminders and updates on dojo. If your child has had a behavior referral I will communicate this in dojo. Please check my website for things like lunch menus, specials schedule, important date reminders, PTO info, etc.
Do I have to sign my child's agenda each night? I do not require a signature unless there is a note in it requesting a signature. I do request a signature on any homework that is sent home. (See Math in the Academic Subject Information page)
Can I come eat lunch with my child? Yes! The cafeteria requests a 24 hr. notice for this.
Can my child bring a snack each day? Absolutley! Please have them bring a single serving (not an entire can of Pringles) that they can easily eat in 10 min. Our snack is usually eaten at 9:45 when we return from special.
Do you send homework every night? No, I do not send homework every night. If your child doesn't complete something, they may be told to take it home for homework. However, I do ask that your child reads 15-30 minutes each night and practice multiplication facts 5-10 minutes each night.
Will my child get a spelling list each week? No, we no longer send home spelling lists to be memorized. Instead, students will bring home a Family Support Letter that shares the phonics/morphology skills included in that lesson and ways to practice that skill to prepare for the Friday Quiz (no longer a spelling test of memorized words but a quiz testing the application of the skill.)
Will my child bring home a newsletter every week? I do not send a newsletter home. I keep my website updated and will communicate using Class Dojo.
When are specials? We go to special at 9:05-9:45. Monday-Music, Tuesday-Library, Wednesday-Art, Thur. -Computer Lab, Fri.-P.E.
How do I make changes to my child's transportation schedule? You may make changes to your child's transportation plan by sending a note to your child's teacher or calling the front office.
If I have a question or concern, what should I do? Please contact me first. I will do my best to remedy the situation and refer it to Mr. Bond or Mr. Odar if needed. Many times questions or concerns arise from miscommunication or lack of communication. I will do my best to communicate frequently with you about your child. If I miss the mark, please let me know and I will try my hardest to do better.
What does my child need to keep in his/her locker? A sweatshirt is good to keep her in case they get cold in the room. Also, a towel that we will use to sit on when we go outside to do work or activities.
What is the school policy on getting extra food at lunch? Students can request extras in the morning when they sign in (as long as they have your permission). When they go through the lunch line they can request extras then, or they may also ask a lunch monitor if they can go back through the lunch line a second time after their first lunch has been eaten. Please let me know if your child is allowed to order extras.
What about Smart Watches? As long as the students are using them appropriately for telling time they are allowed. If they are using them to communicate, play games, as a calculator, or any other distracting use, they will be prohibited.
