Counselor Corner
Mr. Strittholt is doing his April classroom lessons with grades 3-5 on having a Growth Mindset, and for May, he will be discussing Adaptability and Transitions to the next Grade Level. Mrs. Lobenstein is completing classroom lessons this month, grades K-2, on kindness and respect. Mrs. Lobenstein and Mr. Strittholt have started their final groups for the 2023-2024 school year. These groups have covered subjects such as social skills, divorce/changing families, high ability, anxiety, coping skills, self-esteem, and conflict resolution. The counselors will continue to support the students through the direct services of classroom lessons and individual sessions (as needed) throughout the remainder of the year. Fernside Center for Grieving Children is hosting its final grief support sessions with our students for the 2023-2024 school year. For those interested, Fernside hosts a camp over the summer for grieving kids/teens. For more information on this program and other services, visit their website.
State Testing Tips
Attendance - Being present and on time is crucial to a student's education. This is the same for the state testing season. Tardiness and absenteeism will result in students making up the test at a different time than their peers and missing vital classroom instruction and activities. Showing up early on testing days will prevent the student from feeling rushed.
Rest - Sleep can improve your student's concentration, alertness, and mood the next day. It also helps the students recall previously learned information.
Breakfast - Research shows that eating breakfast can help improve students' concentration, increase energy, and increase test scores.
Stay Positive - Some students may feel the pressure of state testing. It may help to encourage them and let them know you believe in them! This helps the student with their confidence and builds positive self-esteem!
