Mrs. Cunha's 2nd Grade

Dear Parents,

I am so excited to be a part of the Sundale Elementary family for my 3rd year! I fell in love with this school the moment I stepped foot on the campus. I look forward to getting to know all of you, and building connections with your students. First, a little bit about myself. I love teaching! This will be my 8th year teaching! I am super passionate about what I do and I am constantly striving to improve my practice. I love all things reading and I love, love, love to teach math. I also like to be creative, and look forward to creating some fun art with your students this year! I have been married 5 years to my husband Jared. We have three children. My little girl, Kollins, just turned 5. She talks like she is a teenager and is all sass. My little boy's name is Koast. He is going to be 4 years old in January and I have never seen anyone LOVE dancing as much as he does! His moves are one of a kind! Our newest addition is baby Karver or Karv for short. She turned 5 months in Decemeber and is about as easy as they come. I guess you kind of have to be when you are the third child! Family is so important to me and I like to carry that over into my classroom. I want every one of your students to succeed and feel like they are part of our classroom family.

Contact Information

All contact will be through ClassDojo. Transparency is so important. Please reach out to me first with any comments, questions, and concerns whenever they come up! I will try and respond as soon as I can. Any late messages may be addressed the following morning.

ClassDojo

We will use ClassDojo for all parent-teacher contact. This allows me to make sure I am responding and receiving all messages in one place. If you wish to then schedule a phone meeting, or face to face conference--we can do so after initial contact. ClassDojo Messaging allows me to send quick messages straight to your cell phone. I use this for reminders, sharing activities we complete in class, and important updates. The ClassDojo app (free for iPhone & Android) also allows you to send messages to me. This is by far the best way to contact me, as I check ClassDojo throughout the day. Today I will provide sign up instructions with your child’s unique code if you have not already connected.

Classroom Rules and Discipline

In the event that a behavior problem should arise, I will deal with it in the classroom. However, if the student’s behavior does not improve I will contact you. They may be asked to owe their free time or some other consequence, as well as, contacting the office.

Student snacks/Water bottles

Your child may bring a small, healthy snack for their break at 10:00am. Please do not bring candy, soda, chips, or other sugary snacks that may make them feel tired and sluggish. Also keep in mind that we eat lunch early (11:20am), and often students are not hungry for lunch if their snack is too big. They may bring a water bottle with a lid to class. Only water.

Homework/Classwork

Mondays you will receive a spelling list and two books. Please read the books every night until your child can read them smoothly. Please practice spelling words. They will be tested on Fridays! Your child will NOT have homework they will need to return until September. It will depend on our progress, but I will notify you of the homework components later in the year. It is very important when the time comes to complete homework on time. It will be collected first thing every Friday morning.
