Public Address events involve writing and performing an original speech.
Debate events involve researching, writing, and delivering speeches, as well as responding to speeches and arguments made by other students.
Novice Reading (NR)
First year only. Ten minute performance of prose, poetry, or children's literature. No plays allowed.
Declamation (DEC)
Ninth and tenth grade only. Deliver a ten minute speech previously delivered by someone else.
Congressional Debate (CON)
3:00 speeches, 2:00 cross examinations
Poetry (POE)
Five to ten minute performance of a poem or selection of poems. No plays.
Impromptu Speaking (IMP)
Prepare AND deliver a speech on a provided topic within five minutes.
Public Forum Debate (PF)
4:00-4:00-(3:00)-4:00-4:00-(3:00)-3:00-3:00-(3:00)-2:00-2:00
Prose (PRO)
Five to ten minute performance of a prose piece. No plays.
Expository (EXP)
Deliver a five minute original speech that is informative in nature.
Lincoln Douglas Debate (LD)
6:00-3:00-7:00-3:00-4:00-6:00-3:00
Children's Literature (CLT)
Ten minute performance of a children's story, either prose or poetry. No plays allowed.
Extemporaneous Speaking (EXT)
30:00 prep, 7:00 speech
Dramatic Interpretation (DI)
Ten minute performance of a play or prose that is dramatic in nature.
Informative Speaking (INF)
Deliver a ten minute original speech that is informative in nature.
Humorous Interpretation (HI)
Ten minute performance of a play or prose that is humorous in nature.
Original Oratory (OO)
Deliver a ten minute original speech that is persuasive in nature.
Program Oral Interpretation (POI)
Ten minute performance of interwoven selection of prose, poetry, and plays.
Duo Interpretation (DUO)
Ten minute performance of prose, poetry, or a play with a partner.
