Our main OT goal is improving students' handwriting legibility.
The skills that we work on in OT to achieve that goal are:
Visual motor skills
(Visual Motor Integration is the coordination of hand movements based upon the perception of visual information). Some activities you can do at home with your kids to help them practice these skills include:
Word search puzzles
Dot to dot puzzles
Coloring (inside the lines)
Maze puzzles
Visual perceptual skills
(the vision skills needed to understand, evaluate, and interpret what is seen). Some activities you can do at home with your kids to help them practice these skills include:
Interlocking puzzles (jigsaw kind)
Hidden Picture games
Spot It! Card game
I Spy games/books
Fine motor Coordination
(involve the use of precise and coordinated movements of the fingers to perform hand use tasks). Some activities you can do at home with your kids to help them practice these skills include:
Lego building (smaller blocks provide a better finger workout!)
Don’t Break the Ice game
Operation board game
Play Doh/clay
