We want to make you aware of our District’s updated Electronic Communication Device (ECD) Policy and new Regulation. These guidelines are designed to help students stay focused on learning, while also ensuring a safe and respectful school environment. The Board of Education approved the first reading of the Policy and Regulation, which means it will be strictly enforced across all of our schools at the start of this school year.
Key Points by Grade Level
Elementary (Pre-K – Grade 5): Students may not use cell phones or other electronic devices during the school day. Devices must remain off and stored in backpacks/lockers.
Important Reminders
Devices may never be used in restrooms, locker rooms, or other private areas.
Students in Pre-K–8 are encouraged not to bring devices to school. If they do, the device must be turned off, passcode protected, and stored.
Students and families assume the risk of loss, theft, or damage. The district is not responsible for misplaced devices.
If a student needs to contact home during the day, they should go to the main office. Parents should call the office in the event they need to get in touch with their child.
Disciplinary Steps for Misuse
Elementary: First offense is a warning. Repeated offenses may result in the device being held by staff/administration until the end of the day, parent notification, and possible loss of privileges.
Middle and High School: First offense results in device confiscation for the day and a meeting with administration. Repeated offenses include parent contact, detentions, and, for high school students, possible suspension beginning with the fourth offense.

In addition, the District has had conversations about finding a healthy balance with the use of student screen time in the classroom. This is an important topic that we will assess throughout the school year. By working together, we can ensure that technology supports learning without disrupting the school day.
