Welcome to Drama! During our nine weeks together we will develop an introductory understanding of play production, theater history, and technical theater. In this class we will look at a variety of texts, historical to contemporary, and explore the plethora of opportunities offered in the dramatic arts both on and off the stage. Together we will learn how to investigate our thoughts and feelings in creating a role, look at the storied history of theater, and examine the different technical aspects found in live performance. There is something for everyone in this course, from scene work to writing critiques to putting together design concept boards. Whether you have been in ten shows or never seen a play before, this class is for you. All you need to succeed is to come in with an open mind, kindness to yourself and others, and a willingness to take risks. I cannot wait to go on this adventure with you!
Welcome to Musical Theater Workshop! Building on the skills in music and drama from the previous classes, we will engage in the creative process of developing, designing and performing in a musical production. Working together in collaborative production teams, students will workshop an original musical consisting of short scenes and songs that allow for solo, duet, and group performances. We will explore cultural and societal topics that are impacting our world today and incorporate them into our presentations. Before starting our original pieces we will study the history of musical theater, one that is deeply intertwined with the history of America. Musical Theater Workshop provides a basis for in-depth study and application of skills in writing and performance, including but not limited to those of being a playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, dancer, choreographer, or technician. In this class students are encouraged to bring their own experiences and truth to the table in order to develop as contemporary creators and team players. This class will be a unique adventure in discovering your creative potential.
