In-School Services:
Individual Counseling/Check-Ins:
Individual Counseling is a short-term counseling service that is available to every student at Wilson Primary Center. This service is requested by parents, teachers, and or students. Our session will focus on school-based problems that could be affecting their academic and or emotional well-being. This may include difficulty with friendships, trouble with big feelings/emotions or conflict, or needing a brain break. If you would like me to meet with your child or are in need of resources outside of school, please contact me or your child's teacher with further information.
Lunch Bunch
Lunch Bunch is a short-term counseling service that is available to every student during their lunch period and usually requested by parents, teachers or from counselor observations. These meetings are held once a week for 4-5 students at a time and can include students from multiple classes that share the same lunch period. Lunch bunch is a more casual version of small-group counseling where students get to socialize, learn skills on how to communicate and build friendships, and to build confidence. We play some group games and have conversations that may aide in building these skills.
Small-Group Counseling:
Small-Group Counseling is a 6 week-long service that is offered to all kindergarteners throughout the school year. Similarly, to individual counseling, your child will be referred to this service as needed by their teacher. Your child will meet once a week during a free period (i.e. not during specials) with other students in different classes to discuss social skills topics such as Friendship, Emotions, Coping Skills, etc. If your child is selected for this group, a permission form must be signed and returned before participating. Details of the group will be sent home and discussed further. I will also share weekly discussion topics and activities with parents/guardians.
Class Lessons:
Class Lessons are a service I provide throughout the school year once a month. The goal is to go into each classroom and teach lessons that are relevant to the school-wide goal/theme for the month and promote social-emotional learning (Ex. friendship, personal space, making good choices, etc). As the needs of the school change, I cater to that and add on lessons as needed. You will see sneak peeks of these lessons in the newsletter.
PBSIS VIP Lunch:
As a part of our new Positive Behavior System in Schools (PBSIS), every month students will be selected from different classes who have displayed examples of kindness and respect and will be rewarded with a VIP lunch spot with myself, the principal, and some surprise guests along the way! Here we will discuss what kindness and respect are, how they were examples of it, and how we can help others to be kind and respectful as well.
*Every day that I am in the building students will see my face. I make sure that I am known around the school by all students so that I am in tune with their needs, we build a trusting relationship, and I personally get to know a little bit about all of them. It is my favorite part about being at the primary level; seeing their faces every day and celebrating all of them!Â
