This Advanced Placement English Language and Composition has been developed to meet the curricular standards of the College Board and is taught at a level comparable to introductory college English classes. In this course, students will discover and explore the ways that writers use the tools of language for rhetorical purposes. Through regular practice of close reading strategies, especially in the examination of diction and syntax, students will develop their own skills as thinkers and writers. Students will focus their attention mainly on nonfiction readings and the production of formal and informal written work in a variety of modes including narration, exposition, analysis, persuasion, argument and synthesis. Discussion about reading and writing will be an important component of the course. All students will take the AP English Language and Composition exam on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
