About Us

Mrs. Thomas has been at LCJSMS since 2001. She has a BA in English with a Secondary Education minor from Drew University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Rutgers University. Mrs. Thomas loves non-fiction, biographies, realistic and historical fiction. Ask her what she is reading now!

Mrs. Doherty has been at LCJSMS since 2018. Previously she spent time in both Jefferson and Brayton libraries. She has a BA in English from Rutgers University while also holding a Masters in Middle School Education from Lesley University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Rutgers University. Mrs. Doherty loves to read realistic and historical fiction, and she loves music.


The LLC

The LCJSMS Library Learning Commons is a place for our school community to work collaboratively and to access a variety of print and online resources for research and pleasure reading. Classes from all subject areas visit the LLC for information literacy instruction. We have two Mediascapes, which allow up to four people to work collaboratively with their Chromebooks. Our collection consists of over 20,000 print books, over 400 audiobooks, over 10,000 eBooks and 18 research databases.


Here are some of the things you can do when you visit on your own time before school, after school, and at lunch:

• Read and check out books

• Study

• Do homework

• Work with groups on projects

• Hang out

• Use Makerspace items


Hours:

LLC:

Monday - Friday open at 7:30 AM

• Sign in on the sign-in sheet.

• Once you are signed in you have to stay until we dismiss you to period 1.


Monday - Thursday open until 3:30 PM (unless we have a meeting)

• You do not have to sign in.

• You can leave at any time.


Friday open until 3:00 PM


Lunches

• Check the signs to see if we are open

• If we are open, you must spend at least 10 minutes in the cafeteria eating your lunch.

• After 10 minutes, you sign out at the desk and get a pass.

• You stay in the LLC until it is time to go to your next class.


Lending:


Library materials go out for two weeks and can be renewed - bring in the book to have it renewed


Project books are checked out on an overnight basis
