Band Supplies

SUPPLIES LIST

The following supplies must be purchased on your own

1.  Book- 6th Grade: Habits of a Successful Beginner Band Musician Book 1

7th Grade: Essential Elements For Band Book 1 

8th Grade: Essential Elements For Band Book 1

7th and 8th Grades: Foundations for Superior Performance 

*Ask for the book for the instrument that you are playing

2.  Basic Cleaning Supplies-See detailed list below pertaining to your instrument.

3. Three-Ring Binder with Dividers- All students must use a three-ring binder to keep their music organized. Black would be the preferred color for the binder. 

4. Plastic Sheet Protectors

5. Pencil pouch supplied with pencils and highlighters

6. White, lined index cards (6th grade ONLY)

Additional Information

Woodwind Players- I require having four quality reeds in your case at all times. Places to purchase reeds are Amazon, Music Doctors, and Dominion Music. In the case of emergencies, I can supply your reeds, but you must replace the reed you borrowed the next time you go to a music store or order online. For example, if you borrow one Vandoren 2.5 clarinet reed, please bring me one Vandoren 2.5 clarinet reed as soon as possible. If you choose to go to the music store and buy your own, please purchase Vandoren reeds (2 for 6th grade, 2.5 for 7th grade, 3 for 8th grade) for whatever instrument your child plays. 

Supplies Needed for Instrument Care and Maintenance

Please find your instrument and purchase the supplies listed. If you do not know what something is, just ask me or the people at the music store to assist you. You may purchase an entire cleaning kit if you desire, but you do not have to. Below is what is necessary.

Flute

1. Cleaning/tuning rod

2. Polishing cloth

Clarinet and Saxophone

1. A weighted swab (silk preferred) for cleaning out the inside

2. Cork grease

        3. Mouthpiece patch (optional)

Trumpet, French Horn, Baritone, Tuba

1. Valve oil (Piston valve oil for trumpet, baritone, piston valve tubas; rotor oil for French Horn and rotary valve tubas). 

2. Tuning slide grease

3. Small Towel (for spit valve)

4. Mouthpiece disinfectant (optional)

5. Cleaning Snake 

Trombone

1. “Trombotine” slide cream (please make sure you get Trombotine and not another  

brand)

2. Travel-size spray water bottle (from Walmart, Food City, etc.) 

3. Tuning slide grease

4. Cleaning Snake

5. Small Towel (for spit valve)

Percussion Supplies

A Fresh Approach to the Snare Drum & Mallet Percussion by Mark Wessels, concert snare drum sticks, xylophone mallets, timpani mallets if not purchased yet.
