The Sullivan County Online Program is an opportunity for our students to learn and master grade-level standards in an online learning environment. Tennessee-certified educators will lead your child through the coursework using quality curriculum and instructional resources. More importantly, they will lead students with love, care, and commitment.
CURRICULUM INFORMATION
The Full-Time Student will be provided with a Tennessee-certified teacher. The credentialed, Tennessee-certified teacher in each course provides student and teacher-initiated direct instruction; serves as the teacher of record; responds to student-initiated chat and email; grades assignments; moderates discussion boards; and assigns final grades. Our courses meet National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Eligibility Center requirements.
The parent/guardian, or “learning coach,” plays a significant role in online learning. Pearson provides Learning Coach support for families designed to help them make the most of their online learning experience. Parents/guardians can access tips and tricks, best practices, and information about schedules and how to support their students’ work best and keep them on task. Pearson will provide the learning platform and learning materials needed for the course.
6th through 12th grade teachers will meet with students once a week for core subjects and once every two weeks for electives.
ADMISSION TO ONLINE INSTRUCTION
Families of students from sixth through twelfth grade must complete an application for admission into the Online Program. The application may be found at the bottom of this page and must be completed for review by the admissions team. Each family will be invited to a required transition meeting to determine admission and enrollment in coursework. Completing an application and having a meeting does not mean acceptance into the online or blended learning program. Acceptance is to be determined after the meeting. Early enrollment is encouraged; there will be limited spaces. If a family does not attend the meeting, eligibility will be terminated. Assuming space is available, families enrolling their students less than two weeks before the beginning of school may not be enrolled in time to begin the year with other students in the program.
TN-READY AND END-OF-COURSE EXAMS
By SCS Board Policy 4.700, TN Ready/TCAP scores for math, ELA, science, and social studies (as reported by the state) will be included in a student’s final grades as 15% of the student’s final average for the year. For the purposes of state testing, the testing schedule will be set and delivered to parents prior to the first day of testing. All state testing will be completed at each student's designated school. TN Ready/TCAP exams will be administered in person at a designated testing location, and students are not allowed to miss scheduled tests or reschedule tests unless a significant documented emergency occurs.
