Classroom Expectations
Students in elementary art class are expected to:
Respect all materials, artwork, and classmates
Listen carefully to instructions and demonstrations
Participate actively in all art activities
Clean up their workspace before leaving class
Use materials responsibly and only as directed
Stay in their assigned seats unless given permission to move
Raise their hand to ask questions or request help
Keep hands, feet, and materials to themselves
Art Room Policies
Materials
Art supplies are for art class only and should not be taken from the room
Students must ask permission before using any materials
Damaged or wasted materials may result in loss of privileges
Safety
Follow all safety rules when using scissors, glue, and other tools
Report any spills or accidents immediately
Wear smocks or old shirts when working with paint or messy materials
Artwork
All artwork stays in the art room until it is complete
Students should write their name, grade, and teacher on every project
Finished work will be sent home or displayed in the school
Behavior
Students are expected to follow the same school-wide behavior expectations in art class
Repeated disruptions may result in a loss of art privileges or parent contact
Grading Scale (1-4)
4 - Exemplary
Consistently exceeds expectations
Demonstrates exceptional effort, creativity, and skill
Follows all directions and completes work on time
Shows respect for materials, peers, and the art process
Takes pride in their work and goes above and beyond
3 - Proficient
Meets all expectations
Demonstrates good effort, creativity, and developing skills
Follows directions and completes work on time
Shows respect for materials, peers, and the art process
Produces quality work that reflects understanding of concepts
2 - Developing
Partially meets expectations
Demonstrates inconsistent effort or needs improvement in skill development
Sometimes follows directions or needs reminders to stay on task
May rush through work or need additional time to complete projects
Shows some understanding but needs continued practice
1 - Beginning
Does not yet meet expectations
Demonstrates minimal effort or engagement
Frequently off-task or does not follow directions
Work is incomplete or does not reflect understanding of concepts
May need additional support or intervention
Communication
Parents will be notified if a student consistently receives scores of 1 or 2, or if behavior becomes a concern. Progress reports and report cards will reflect student achievement in art class.
