Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to Chorus! I am excited to begin a new year filled with high-quality music making and learning. This year, we will be navigating new terrain as we return to full in-person choral ensembles. One of the best parts about chorus is that feeling we get when we all sing together and make beautiful art as part of something larger than ourselves. This comes from our willingness to learn, do our best, and be the finest individual musicians we can be. This is a new year with many changes but those key elements of a choir will remain: our willingness to put ourselves forward, learn new skills, and develop individual musicianship. Our primary goal in chorus is to develop independent musicianship while fostering collaboration through ensemble singing. Chorus will prepare you for future music classes with an emphasis on music literacy, music theory, artistry and choral performance.

Class Participation 33% of Grade

Participation plays an important role in the chorus classroom. Chorus is a team and each team member contributes to the success of the class. Because much of our class is performance based, a large portion of your grade will be determined by classroom participation, attitude and effort.

Concert Participation 33% of Grade

Our Winter and Spring concerts highlight all of the excellent work we do throughout the year. Performance attendance is mandatory. If a student is not able to attend the concert for any reason, a concert make-up assignment will be given.

Classwork, Homework and Assignments 33% of Grade

Students are responsible for all classwork assignments throughout the year. This may include listening logs, poetry reflections, composer/artist research, hearings and translations. All assignments should be handed in on time. For each day an assignment is late, 10% of the grade will be deducted. If a child is absent due to illness, they will not be penalized for any late work.

I am looking forward to working with you and making beautiful music as an ensemble. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know and we will work together to find a solution.

With Respect,

Marc Jaffee
