Lesson 13: Plotting Earthquakes

Where do earthquakes occur? We will conduct activities to locate the areas in the world that experience the most seismic activity; the Ring of Fire, Mid-Atlantic Ridge, and the Mediterranean-Himalayan belt. We will investigate the correlation of earthquakes to mountain ranges, coastlines, ocean basins, trenches and volcanic islands. Patterns of earthquake activity will be investigated, and the idea of plate boundaries will be introduced.
