WHAT IS STUDENT LEADERSHIP?
Student leadership is an important aspect of the upper elementary school experience. When students take on leadership roles, they learn valuable skills such as responsibility, decision-making, and communication. They also gain a sense of ownership and pride in their school community, which motivates them to work harder and achieve more. Furthermore, student leaders serve as positive role models for their peers, inspiring them to get involved and take on leadership roles in and outside of school. By fostering student leadership, the Soquel Elementary School creates a culture of empowerment and engagement, where they feel valued and supported in their personal and academic growth.
Student leadership opportunities include:
Playground Posse - students serve as model students during primary grade recess. Students will engage those who need a friend to play with, assist students in learning game rules, and work as peaceful, conflict-resolution, recess leaders.
MakerSpace Managers - students will support the continual organization and design of challenges for the Soquel El MakerSpace under the direction of Mr. Witter.
Cougar Store Cashier- students will support "sales" during our weekly PBIS store
Student Council- This group of student leaders will meet monthly with Ms. Jessica and Mr. Witter regarding school-wide student wellbeing, campus life, campus community, and environment. Together concerns will be addressed and solutions developed. Additionally, students work to pick Soquel El Spirit day themes, plans, and advertise events; support PBIS school assemblies, and more!
