WHAT IS STUDENT LEADERSHIP?
Student leadership is an important aspect of the upper elementary school experience. When students take on leadership roles, they learn valuable skills such as responsibility, decision-making, and communication. They also gain a sense of ownership and pride in their school community, which motivates them to work harder and achieve more. Furthermore, student leaders serve as positive role models for their peers, inspiring them to get involved and take on leadership roles in and outside of school. By fostering student leadership, the Santa Cruz Gardens Elementary School creates a culture of empowerment and engagement where they feel valued and supported in their personal and academic growth.
Student leadership opportunities include:
Peace Pals - students work as peaceful, conflict-resolution recess leaders in the TK-K recess yards.
Green Team - students work with our Life Lab & Living Classroom teacher, Ms. Jade, to ensure our campus stays clean and litter-free. She also works with students to properly recycle, compost, and eliminate trash from our beautiful campus.
Spirit Days - students work to pick the themes, plan, and advertise all the SCG Spirit Days.
Data Analysis and Goal Setting - students use student voice surveys to understand areas of need and select goals to make the school a better place both emotionally and academically.
