Week of Feb. 2nd to Feb. 6th:
Reading: We will start up unit 4: Lesson 16: Testing Ideas. We will listen to the story, "Dear Mr. Blueberry," in order to explain how the characters test ideas in the story. Students will also be able to recognize the text structure of letters from the story in order to identify parts of a letter (greeting, body, closing). We will listen to the story, "What is Science?" in order to tell how people use science to learn new things. We will identify key details from the story. We will use our book handling skills in order to read "What is it?," and "Fit In My Cab," in our student readers in small groups. I can use clues from the pictures to help me read. We will review, identify, write and read the 6 new sight words from lesson 16; how, is, many, of, so, where. We will use our sight words to write/read them in sentences. We will recognize, write, and learn the beginning sound of the letter, Ii- Iggy Iguana. We will continue reviewing rhyming, initial, ending and middle sounds, and parts of a word with Heggerty. Â
Sight words: I, like, the, and, see, we, a, to, come, me, with, my, you, what, are, now, how, is, many, of, so, & where.Â
Math: We will start up unit 9: Comparing Sets.  Students will explore comparing and combining sets up to 20. Students will also find the difference between two sets. Students will be able to compare numerals as more, less, and same . We will also be able to compare sets of objects as more, less, and same. We will be able to understand teen numbers are made with a group of ten and some “extras.” We will identify teen numbers that are one more and one less.Â
Handwriting: We will be working on our FIRST & LAST names Kindergarten style. A capital letter at the beginning of our name and the rest lowercase. (ie. Deirdre Callinan). Â
Religion:Â We will recognize that small things can make a big difference. We will listen to the Gospel, "Jesus Followers are like salt and light." We will be able to explain why Jesus says we are like salt and light. We will learn the about Jesus disciples.Â
Social Studies: Â We will finish up our unit on Groundhogs. We will identify a groundhog as an animal and describe basic facts about it (where it lives, what it looks like, and when we talk about it). We will be able to explain how the groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day and connect it to light, the sun, and shadows. We will make predictions if the groundhog will see his shadow or not!Â
