Hello!
Once we return from Easter Break, Field Day will be approaching fast. It's time to start thinking about tie dye shirts for the class to wear for Field Day. We are asking if every student can please bring in a plain white t-shirt and $2 by April 20. Please place the t-shirt and the $2 in a gallon size ziploc bag with your child's name on it. The $2 is to cover the cost of tie dying material. Please label your child's shirt with their name in permanent marker. If the shirt has a tag, that is the best place to write the name. If it is tagless, the collar works, or there is sometimes a tag on the inside seam of the shirt.
We are also looking for a volunteer to tie dye the shirts and have them back to us by May 2 so we can send them all back home with the children. Service hours for this year or next year will also be offered to this volunteer. This is a great opportunity to finish up your service hours or get a head start on next year! If you can volunteer for this project please email me back.
The AOB Spelling Bee is back and will take place on Monday, May 8, 2023. We are looking for one outstanding speller to represent SUS. There will be an SUS spelling bee for all interested 4th, 5th and 6th grade students later in April. (An exact date will be provided when we return from break.) The winner of this bee will represent SUS. Please see the attached word list if you are interested in practicing.

Hello!! Here are some updates for tomorrow, December 20th:
Tomorrow is a half day. Please check the What's Ahead Wednesday email for the pickup times!
For our Christmas Assembly, students were asked to wear a specific color depending on which group they are for the performance. Students were told to try their best at wearing the color but not to worry if they cannot.
Tomorrow is "Christmas-wear" day! Students are invited to wear their best Christmas outfit (e.g., red, green, Santa hat, etc.)
1/2 day more until break! Let me know if you have any questions!
Hello Parents!! There has been an increase of illness at our school. Please see the attached message from Mrs. Jones. Let me know if you have any questions!
Dear Parent or Guardian:
This letter is to provide you information about an increase in flu cases and flu-like symptoms that SUS students are experiencing. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines. Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
Fever‐greater than 100°F and your child should stay home until at least 24 hours after they no longer have a fever. This should be determined without the use of fever‐reducing medicines (any medicine that contains ibuprofen or acetaminophen).
Vomiting (even once)
Diarrhea
Chills
General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
Frequent congested (wet) or croup cough
Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
To help prevent the flu and other colds, please remind your children about good hygiene habits:
Wash hands frequently
Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth
Cover the mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing with a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Colds and influenza are the most contagious during the first 48 hours.
A child who has a fever should remain at home until they are “fever free” for a minimum of 24 hours. Often when a child awakens with vague complaints (the way colds and flu begin), it is wise to observe your child at home for an hour or two before deciding whether or not to bring your child to school. Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on return to school. Keeping a sick child at home will help minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom. It is recommended everyone 6 months of age and older get a seasonal flu vaccine each year. You need this season’s influenza vaccine to protect against the influenza viruses most likely to circulate and cause illness this season. Thank you in advance for helping this school year be as healthy as possible.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Leslie Jones
Principal
