Seal of Biliteracy

The Multilingual Learner Department is pleased to announce that Sturgis will again be offering the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy! This is an award that recognizes high school graduates who attain high functional and academic levels of proficiency in English and another world language. Please see the letter that was sent to Sturgis families for more information on how 12th grade students can earn this award: linked here.

Sexual Health and Wellness Program for 9th graders

Two representatives from Independence House and staff from Children’s Cove will be working with our 9th graders on building healthy relationships, developing a positive body image, understanding human sexuality, and making good choices.  They will speak with our grade 9 students the week of September 23 - 26.  All grade 9 students will be assigned to a 50-minute session for each of the four days of their visit.  

If you would like your child to be excused from these sessions, please contact their school counselor by Friday, September 19th.

In addition to the student program listed above, there will be a virtual Parent Information Night on Tuesday, September 23rd, (7:00pm - 8:00pm). The Zoom link and additional information about the programming can be found in the email that was sent to 9th grade families. This is a great opportunity to hear a professional perspective on the challenges and choices facing today’s youth.  They will provide an overview of how they approach the work with your students. Questions and feedback are always welcome.  

Keeping Teens Healthy program and Active Bystander Training for 10th graders from September 30-October 3

The next program is our upcoming ‘Keeping Teens Healthy’ program with Glenn Hall. From September 30- October 3, Glenn Hall will speak with our grade 10 students on the topics of drug and alcohol information, understanding addiction, alternative forms of stress management (natural highs), and intervention strategies. Glenn Hall is a senior prevention specialist, who has worked actively in the field of prevention for 29 years with Hazelden Betty Ford foundation. During those years, Glenn also helped develop and create educational curricula. His passion for prevention education stems from his personal recovery, which stands at 32 years.

In addition to the student program listed above, Glenn will host a virtual Parent Information Night on Thursday, October 2, (6:30pm - 7:30pm) Please use this link to access the meeting. This is a great opportunity to hear a professional perspective on the challenges and choices facing today’s youth. Glenn is very informative and engaging and will provide an overview of how he approaches his work. Questions and feedback are always welcome.

The second event is an Active Bystander Workshop facilitated by Barnstable No Place for Hate which will take place on Monday, September 29. Presented by Sturgis staff, student leaders, and Barnstable’s No Place for Hate initiative, this workshop will help students develop strategies and skills to effectively identify when and how to intervene in situations of harm or injustice. This is a positive and empowering workshop that gives students skills to make our community healthier and safer.

East CAPS Fee- Class of 2027 CAPS

College Application Processing Services (Pay CAPS: College Application Processing Services)

This one-time fee of $25.00, collected at the beginning of junior year, will cover college preparatory-related costs through your child’s junior and senior year. This includes:

1: PSAT registration for 11th grade

2: A college fair in the Spring

3. Our annual “College Application Boot Camp” held in the week before school starts for seniors

4: Costs involved with mailing college applications, transcripts, and additional forms during the senior year."
