As of March 1, 2025, Google Workspace for Education will implement changes to student accounts regarding access to Google services outside of the Google Workspace for Education core services. This action requires schools to obtain parental permission for any student under 18 to use each of these services.
Google Core Services (Gmail, Classroom, Drive, Docs, Slides, Forms, Calendar, Sheets, etc.) will NOT be affected. Students can continue using these services as they currently do. Google Additional Services (including YouTube, Translate*, Earth, Photos) will be disabled for student accounts at the end of the day on February 28, 2025, unless the Google Additional Services Parental Consent form is completed. Consent provided via this Google form will apply to the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
Google provides information about the information it collects, as well as how it uses and discloses the information it collects from Google Workspace for Education accounts in its Google Workspace for Education Privacy Notice,:
https://workspace.google.com/terms/education_privacy.html.
Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, the parental consent for Google's Additional Services will be included in the school handbook acknowledgment process.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email techhelp@sturgischarterschool.org.
Google has extended this deadline. We will be turning off these services on March 21 for students whose parent/guardian has not signed the form.

Dear Sturgis Families,
Sturgis Charter Public School is committed to enrolling and retaining a diverse student body and faculty who have a sense of belonging. In accordance with state and federal regulations, students are enrolled regardless of immigration status. Information on immigration status is not collected at the time of enrollment, in keeping with these policies.
Sturgis follows state and federal guidelines, including the Attorney General's Office memo titled “Guidance Regarding K-12 Schools’ Obligation to Protect Students and Their Information” (translated copies here) on January 27, 2025, that create rules for keeping both student information and student spaces safe from third parties.
Sturgis has a robust plan to ensure that student learning is not interrupted and that students feel supported. Faculty and staff have been trained and updated on all current guidelines. It is our hope that families know we are a community of care and concern for all our students, and take our responsibility to protect their privacy seriously.
Families are encouraged to regularly update contact information, including any emergency contacts. The Planning for Family Emergency packet can be useful, as is the Emergency Planning Guide for Families. Information on rights can be found at MIRA Coalition.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.

U.S. News and World Report's 2024 public high school rankings identify Sturgis as the #5 public high school in the state, #235 in the country, and #59 charter school nationwide!
These rankings recognize and reflect our staff, students, parents, and trustees' commitment to our mission of IB For All. This year's rankings are especially well-earned, I find, as they are based on data from the 2020-2021 school year, which was a time when we demonstrated tremendous resilience and resourcefulness as a community.
Congratulations!!!!
