CONSTRUCTION ON SHOOTFLYING HILL ROAD
I wanted to alert you to the fact that we will be dealing with a road closure on Shootflying Hill Road from Great Marsh Road to Pleasant Pines Ave. As of Monday, March 3rd it is closed and will have a detour for the rest of this school year. Several buses are impacted by this as we have a large group of kids in this stretch of road and we have contacted all of them as we had to move kids to alternate bus stops. There is no doubt this area will be highly impacted with this closure and detour, so please bear with the buses if they are running late.
Sophomore parents- you can access IB Information on the Sturgis IB Website:

As of March 15, 2025, per Google's decree, we will be implementing Google Workspace for Education's changes to student accounts regarding access to Google services outside of the Google Workspace for Education core services. This action requires schools to obtain parental permission for any student under 18 to use each of these services.
Google Core Services (Gmail, Classroom, Drive, Docs, Slides, Forms, Calendar, Sheets, etc.) will NOT be affected. Students can continue using these services as they currently do. Google Additional Services (including YouTube, Translate*, Earth, Photos) will be disabled for student accounts at the end of the day on February 28, 2025, unless the Google Additional Services Parental Consent form is completed. Consent provided via this Google form will apply to the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
Google provides information about the information it collects, as well as how it uses and discloses the information it collects from Google Workspace for Education accounts in its Google Workspace for Education Privacy Notice,:
https://workspace.google.com/terms/education_privacy.html.
Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, the parental consent for Google's Additional Services will be included in the school handbook acknowledgment process.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email techhelp@sturgischarterschool.org
We do not have a science fair at Sturgis, but interested students can still do research. If they are highly motivated and willing to invest time into a paper and a poster, they can also take it directly to the regional fair. Emily Ward, a freshman at East, sought out a way to do the project independently. At West, Ivan Ivanov was encouraged to participate with his excellent EE. The regional fair gives both special awards, and medals in first, second, and third place tiers. Emily won a special award from the Association for Women Geoscientists which is given to the girl who “exemplifies high standards of innovativeness and scientific excellence in the geoscience and/or Earth sciences.” Both students also earned third place medals and qualified for the Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair at Gillette.

Dear Sturgis Families,
Sturgis Charter Public School is committed to enrolling and retaining a diverse student body and faculty who have a sense of belonging. In accordance with state and federal regulations, students are enrolled regardless of immigration status. Information on immigration status is not collected at the time of enrollment, in keeping with these policies.
Sturgis follows state and federal guidelines, including the Attorney General's Office memo titled “Guidance Regarding K-12 Schools’ Obligation to Protect Students and Their Information” (translated copies here) on January 27, 2025, that create rules for keeping both student information and student spaces safe from third parties.
Sturgis has a robust plan to ensure that student learning is not interrupted and that students feel supported. Faculty and staff have been trained and updated on all current guidelines. It is our hope that families know we are a community of care and concern for all our students, and take our responsibility to protect their privacy seriously.
Families are encouraged to regularly update contact information, including any emergency contacts. The Planning for Family Emergency packet can be useful, as is the Emergency Planning Guide for Families. Information on rights can be found at MIRA Coalition.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.
As of January 1st, Charlie Cards are no longer used, and were replaced by the new GO card. Students can ask their driver or stop in at the Hyannis Transportation Center to get a GO Card.
Please see the flyer below from CCRT for more information.
**To set up your account go to "The Go App" https://capecodrta.org/goapp/ . All questions regarding transferring funds to the new card should be directed to info@capecodrta.org
All students need to download "The Go App" to replenish their account when funds get low.
Please confirm that your Go card is activated for a STUDENT ACCOUNT ($1.50 per ride). If that is not the case, call the CCRT to have it changed.
***Every June, accounts revert to full fare, so you will need to call back to ask for the student fare again each summer.
The number for CCRT is 508-775-8504.

U.S. News and World Report's 2024 public high school rankings identify Sturgis as the #5 public high school in the state, #235 in the country, and #59 charter school nationwide!
These rankings recognize and reflect our staff, students, parents, and trustees' commitment to our mission of IB For All. This year's rankings are especially well-earned, I find, as they are based on data from the 2020-2021 school year, which was a time when we demonstrated tremendous resilience and resourcefulness as a community.
Congratulations!!!!
