Attention PARENTS OF JUNIORS:
On the morning of May 5 and the full day of May 27, ALL juniors will participate in the Collaborative Science Project, an IB requirement (see info below). It is imperative that all juniors are present on both of these days. Any students who miss a portion of the CSP will have to make it up with a project during their senior year. If you are scheduling a junior's absence due to doctors' appointments, etc. we ask that you avoid these dates if possible.
All IB science students must complete a Collaborative Science Project as part of the required IB science practical program. The following elements are expected from the Collaborative Science Project :
Interdisciplinary collaboration
Appreciation of the implications of science and the limitations of scientific study
Development of teamwork
Development of planning skills
Exchange or sharing of both data collected and issues raised
Approximately 10 hours of involvement time
Every year, our juniors tell us how much they enjoy this break from the normal routine to dive into a creative science project of their own design! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Kristine May (kmay@sturgischarterschool.org), Science Department Lead.
We are offering Sturgis Gear for new students through April 20.

Message from the School Nurse
It is the time of year again for health screenings. Ninth and tenth grade parents check your email for a notice about the screenings. Also, we are looking for one or two parent volunteers at each campus to assist the nurses by getting the students that need to be screened from class so that the nurses can just focus on performing the screenings. If you are interested, please reach out to your student's school nurse.
CONSTRUCTION ON SHOOTFLYING HILL ROAD
I wanted to alert you to the fact that we will be dealing with a road closure on Shootflying Hill Road from Great Marsh Road to Pleasant Pines Ave. As of Monday, March 3rd it is closed and will have a detour for the rest of this school year. Several buses are impacted by this as we have a large group of kids in this stretch of road and we have contacted all of them as we had to move kids to alternate bus stops. There is no doubt this area will be highly impacted with this closure and detour, so please bear with the buses if they are running late.
Dear Sturgis Families,
Sturgis Charter Public School is committed to enrolling and retaining a diverse student body and faculty who have a sense of belonging. In accordance with state and federal regulations, students are enrolled regardless of immigration status. Information on immigration status is not collected at the time of enrollment, in keeping with these policies.
Sturgis follows state and federal guidelines, including the Attorney General's Office memo titled “Guidance Regarding K-12 Schools’ Obligation to Protect Students and Their Information” (translated copies here) on January 27, 2025, that create rules for keeping both student information and student spaces safe from third parties.
Sturgis has a robust plan to ensure that student learning is not interrupted and that students feel supported. Faculty and staff have been trained and updated on all current guidelines. It is our hope that families know we are a community of care and concern for all our students, and take our responsibility to protect their privacy seriously.
Families are encouraged to regularly update contact information, including any emergency contacts. The Planning for Family Emergency packet can be useful, as is the Emergency Planning Guide for Families. Information on rights can be found at MIRA Coalition.
If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.
As of January 1st, Charlie Cards are no longer used, and were replaced by the new GO card. Students can ask their driver or stop in at the Hyannis Transportation Center to get a GO Card.

All students need to download "The Go App" to replenish their account when funds get low.
Please confirm that your Go card is activated for a STUDENT ACCOUNT ($1.50 per ride). If that is not the case, call the CCRT to have it changed.

U.S. News and World Report's 2024 public high school rankings identify Sturgis as the #5 public high school in the state, #235 in the country, and #59 charter school nationwide!
These rankings recognize and reflect our staff, students, parents, and trustees' commitment to our mission of IB For All. This year's rankings are especially well-earned, I find, as they are based on data from the 2020-2021 school year, which was a time when we demonstrated tremendous resilience and resourcefulness as a community.
Congratulations!!!!
