The Texas Education Agency (TEA) provides curriculum standards statewide, which outline what students should know and be able to do in each course or grade, called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
The Wichita Falls ISD course calendars below provide a brief outline of each unit, the standards covered within each unit, and the order in which the curriculum is covered. Questions about the curriculum in your child's classroom can be best answered by the classroom teacher, who tailor district resources to the unique needs of student groups.
As you view the course documents below, you will notice a series of numbers and letters which correspond to specific knowledge and skill statements from the TEKS for each unit or subject. You can access the TEKS to learn more about these specific concepts and skills for Science and CTE courses below.
You will also notice that in the Middle School course documents and the Biology course documents, there is additional notes for Readiness and Supporting standards. These standards appear on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Middle School Assessment administered in Grade 8 and STAAR EOC Biology test. While all TEKS are covered throughout the course of instruction, some of the concepts and skills contained in the TEKS may also be emphasized in a subsequent grade or course.
