The Wichita Falls High School Choir program is comprised of 3 choirs that meet during the school day, and one small ensemble that meets after school. There are approximately 100 students enrolled in the program.
Acapella Choir (ACAP)
The WFHS Acapella Choir, usually referred to as ACAP, is the Varsity Mixed Choir at Wichita Falls High School, and is the oldest choir program in Wichita Falls. ACAP is an auditioned ensemble, and usually requires at least one year in another ensemble at WFHS. ACAP has a heavy emphasis in choral music and sight reading. ACAP has several performances each year, and perform at various events and venues around Wichita Falls. Members of ACAP are strongly encouraged to participate in the TMEA All-State process as well as UIL Solo and Ensemble. ACAP also competes in UIL Concert and Sight Reading every year as part of their curriculum.
ACAP has shared the stage with a variety of high profile performers in a variety of genres - from the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra to the iconic Rock Band Foreigner! Members of ACAP have also been very succesful in the TMEA All-State process and UIL Solo and Ensemble. In 2017, the WFHS Acapella Choir sent 1 student to the TMEA All-State Choir in San Antonio, and will be sending 17 students to the Texas State Solo and Ensemble competition in Austin.
Girls' Choir
The WFHS Girls' Choir is made up of mostly freshmen and sophomore women with some experience in choir, either at the middle school or high school level. Girls' Choir is an auditioned ensemble, and required director approval. Girls' Choir has an emphasis in choral music and sight reading. Members of Girls' Choir are strongly encouraged to participate in the TMEA All-State process, as well as UIL Solo and Ensemble. Girls' Choir competes at UIL Concert and Sight Reading every year as part of their curriculum, in addition to performing a minimum of 4 concerts per year .
Mixed Choir
The WFHS Mixed Choir is a non-auditioned performing ensemble, and is open to any student enrolled at Wichita Falls High School. There is no previous experience required to be a member of Mixed Choir. Mixed Choir has an emphasis on beginning choral music and sight-reading. Members of Mixed Choir are encouraged to participate in the TMEA All-State process, as well as UIL Solo and Ensemble. Mixed Choir does not participate at UIL Concert and Sight Reading, but performs in 4 concerts every year.
Old High Singers (OHS)
Old High Singers is an auditioned, versatile performing ensemble made up of members of ACAP. OHS meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10 - 4:00. OHS performs a variety of music, from madrigals to pop music, and everything in between.
About the Director
Chris Jarvis is the current director of the WFHS Choir program, where he has worked since August of 2013. Mr. Jarvis holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from Lubbock Christian University. Before coming to WFHS, Mr. Jarvis served as the inaugural choir director at Heritage Middle School in Lubbock, Texas.
Mr. Jarvis has a beautiful wife, Sarah, who is the theatre teacher at WFHS. Together, they have a son, Liam, and a dog, Neville. Mr. Jarvis is deathly terrified of whales, and is a recognized pizza connoisseur. He also serves as the Music Director at the Wichita Theatre.
