Hi! I’m Lucas, a Junior at Staples High School, exploring Food in Literature. Ever since I heard that this class was offered at my school, I was set on taking the course. I’ve always had a love for cooking, as well as literature, and this was such a cool way to explore those together. I’m hoping to explore my unique heritage through food, which is Swiss and US Southern. As I have explored the Swiss side several times before, I want to give a little love to my Southern side and explore some food traditional to the region. Some of the most important memories of my life, especially those made when I was just able to reach over the kitchen counter, relate back to being in the kitchen with my grandmother from South Carolina. Cooking homemade food with those you love is one of the most important things one can do to strengthen family bonds and pass down generations upon generations of expertise and culture. Understanding and being able to recreate the dishes that make up my heritage is vital to me, and I aim to achieve that in this class.
Why is food so important to me?
I truly believe that cooking homemade food with those you love is one of the most important things you can do to strengthen family bonds and pass down generations upon generations of expertise and culture.
One of my earliest memories cooking with my grandmother from South Carolina.
