Where did you grow up and go to school?
I grew up in Westerly, RI, and went to school here in Westerly. I attended elementary school at Tower Street School, then Babcock Junior High, and then Westerly High School.
Have you worked at another school before?
Yes, my first year of teaching, I was at Deering Middle School in West Warwick. Then after one year, I applied in Westerly and worked at “Babcock Middle School” when it was still a middle school, teaching seventh and eighth grade for one year, then I transferred to the high school, and I have been here ever since.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
My Italian 1 teacher at Westerly High School, Mr. D’Aleno, inspired me to become a world language teacher. He was an amazing teacher and sparked my interest in teaching Italian language and culture.
What is your favorite part about teaching at WHS?
My favorite part is getting to work with kids and sharing my passion for the Italian language and culture with them!
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of school?
I love cooking, especially our Italian family recipes, going for walks, going to the beach in the summer, and traveling with family.
What motivates you to get up in the morning?
Caring for family and teaching my students.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Being the best mom, wife, daughter, sister, and aunt I can be to my family and spreading love for Italy with my students. I also love when former students come back and tell me they are studying abroad, visiting Italy, or somehow including Italian/Italy in their lives!
What is something that most students at WHS do not know about you?
I’m a first-generation Italian, and the Calabrese dialect was my first language.
What is on the top of your bucket list?
Last summer, I checked off a big one. My husband and I took our children to Italy! It was our kids' first time, and they got to see all of the beauty and monuments in Italy, and they also got to meet their family there. My dad's whole family is still there, and he came with us too, so it was very special to see my kids experience it all. My bucket list includes visiting Italy more frequently with my family and also visiting places we have never seen before.
What are you most excited for this school year?
I’m excited to see my own kids grow during their sophomore and senior years and see all my students grow as well. I look forward to all the fun cultural activities we do in class throughout the year. I look forward to seeing my daughter Michaela graduate, but I'm also sad to see her go off to college. I also look forward to my son Luca’s junior and senior years to come!
