Where did you grow up and go to school?
I was born and raised in Westerly. I have deep extended family ties here. My dad, Bob Gingerella, graduated from WHS, as did I, my two siblings, my two children, and numerous cousins.
Have you worked at another school before?
My first year of teaching was spent at Bishop McVinney School in South Providence, RI. I also taught two years at St. Pius X school here in Westerly.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
I have always loved working with children from babysitting as a teenager, to YMCA camp counselor, swim instructor, and Westerly Recreation summer camp art director. I also have an aunt who was an English teacher and she was an inspiration to me.
What is your favorite part about teaching at WHS?
Interacting with my students and watching them become successful adults.
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of school?
I absolutely love gardening in the summer. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, kayaking, reading, going to the beach, traveling, and watching baseball games!
What motivates you to get up in the morning?
I am very thankful for the opportunities a new day brings! I also have responsibilities to meet.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
I am extremely proud of my two children!
What is something that most students at WHS do not know about you?
After I graduated from college I spent the summer camping in a tent with a friend across the USA. It was awesome! We have quite the country! (It was the worst summer ever for my parents…remember, no cell phones back then!)
What is on the top of your bucket list?
A couple of things are to visit every MLB ballpark and to visit Germany where my maternal great-great grandparents were born!
What are you most excited for this school year?
Quarter 4! (Not what you are thinking!) Part of my day is spent teaching Juniors and it is very exciting to talk with them as they inch ever so closely to their Senior year, graduation, and future plans.
