What's a Career Academy? 

The academy is a smaller learning community that focuses on a career theme and is integrated into students’ studies including their core curriculum courses. Each year the same group (cohort) of academy students takes an Academy course, as well as one or more core classes together. This school-within-a-school model is a four-year academy. 

Each academy student participates in several work-based learning activities such as job shadowing, career fairs, career themed industry tours and an internship. Academy students are prepared to participate in these experiences through their cohort academy courses. Each academy student is required to do an internship between the junior and senior year that relates to the academy theme. The internship requires 120 hours. 

Biomedical Science Academy Overview

The Academy of Biomedical Science uses the national Project Lead The Way (PLTW)  Biomedical Science curriculum. The PLTW experience thrives on hands-on engagement that allows students to step into the shoes of professionals and solve problems using tools and techniques they would see in the field. PLTW utilizes a combination of modalities—simulations, 3D models, and hands-on activities to elevate the student experience and support lasting understanding that can be applied to novel situations. Biomedical Science students are encouraged to explore and find solutions to some of today’s most pressing medical challenges.
