AP 2D Portfolio
Artist Statement:
My sustained investigation is guided by the question how are forms of media and influencers perceived by people, specifically teenage girls? My investigation explores how social media reflects the inauthentic standards of beauty found in different forms of expression. These forms of expression include magazines and various social media networks that are collaged within my portfolio. My investigation emphasizes the effect false reflection of beauty has on different parts of a teenage girl's mind and body.
My investigation begins on parts of a girl, the eye(5) and the ear(7). Media influences these parts as girls often alter their beauty based on what is reflected in what they see and hear. With collage experimentation, my portfolio is guided in how inauthentic beauty standards impact a girl physically(10) and mentally (11). Not only does beauty impact girls, so does the amount of likes one receives. I experimented with a repeated symbol of a like button, and how it overtakes a girl(12) until they are trapped(14). With oil pastel, my experience is shown as I must be a voice(15) even if judged.
