Directions - Follow each step of the tutorial below: read, watch, and apply!

1) Sign in with your Google account username

  • Every Google user has customized settings (tabs, bookmarks, apps, history, and extensions) that follow them regardless of what Chromebook they are using.
  • Warren County Public Schools have their own domain. This is a custom server that supports our teachers and students Google Accounts and store all information about the account.
    • Teachers' domain for Warren County Public Schools is @wcps.k12.va.us
    • Students' domain for Warren County Public Schools is @students.wcps.k12.va.us
      • The pattern for students to login is:

2) Printing

  • In order to print from your Chromebook, you must set up Google Cloud Print. (Remember that you will have a PC in your classroom to which you can print. At this time it is unclear if students will be able to print from their devices. It is recommended that students share files with you via Google Classroom or another pre-selected program.)
  • Setting up Google Cloud Print:
    1. Turn on your printer. (Your classroom printer should already be turned on.)
    2. On your Windows or Mac computer, open Chrome.
    3. At the top right, click More Settings.
    4. At the bottom, click Show advanced settings.
    5. Under "Google Cloud Print," click Manage.
    6. If prompted, sign in with your Google Account. (School account not personal)
    7. Select the printers you want to connect, and then click Add printer(s). (Your ITRT is happy to assist as needed.)

5) Chromebook Shelf (Position & Autohide)

  • The Shelf is displayed at the bottom of your desktop. By default, the Shelf has an icon for launching the Apps list and the Chrome browser. The Status area is located on the right side of your shelf.
  • Autohide shelf:
    • Click with two fingers on the shelf to display the Autohide shelf option. Choose Autohide shelf to hide the shelf while browsing the web. The shelf will appear when you move your pointer over the shelf area.
  • Shelf position:
    • Click with two fingers on the shelf to display the Shelf position options. In addition to being displayed horizontally at the bottom of the desktop, the shelf position can be adjusted to appear vertically on the left or right of your desktop area.

6) Advanced Keyboard Shortcut Keys

  • The Chromebook keyboard has a myriad of advanced keystrokes any user can employ in order to reduce tension and increase productivity.
    • To access a full list of in-depth keyboard shortcuts, press CTRL+ALT+?
    • While in the keyboard shortcut window, identify the following keystrokes:
      • caps lock
      • maximize an internet browsing window
      • minimize an internet browsing window
      • delete
      • dock a browsing window left
      • dock a browsing window right
      • minimize browsing window
      • maximize browsing window
      • cut
      • copy
      • paste
      • open a new browsing window
      • open a new browsing tab
      • take a screenshot
      • zoom in/out
      • open a recently closed tab (hint: this is not listed. You will have to find this answer on your own)

7) Files App

  • Opening the Files app:
    • The Files app can be accessed through your Apps list or by using a keyboard shortcut (alt + shift + m).
  • Managing files:
    • The built-in Files app on your Chromebook allows you to access files that you’ve stored on your Chromebook. Using the Files app, students can easily access files stored on a USB flash drive, upload files to Google Drive, or download files from the web for viewing offline.
