Our main theoretical basis for this intervention is B.F. Skinner’s Positive Reinforcement Theory. Positive reinforcement is rewarding someone with something they like immediately after they show a behavior you would like to occur again. Positive reinforcement, rather than punishment, has been proven to be an effective way to modify a child's behavior.
The Kazdin Method uses roleplay, positive reinforcement, and repetition to encourage desirable behavior. It was created by Dr. Alan Kazdin, who specializes in children who exhibit aggressive and antisocial behavior. ARRG utilizes the idea behind the Kazdin Method and puts it in board game form.
