Academic support system
In DEIHS, the students are divided into two shift. AM shift and PM shift. AM shift starts from 05:30AM – 12:00PM while PM shift start from 12:00pm – 06:20PM. I was assigned in the PM shift. I usually went to the school at 11:00 AM by jeepney and going back to my dorm at 04:20PM.
Inside the classroom, they have facilities like a chalkboard, desks and seats, a trash bin, and other cleaning equipment. Most of the class several or at least one fan inside the classroom but there are also classes that don’t have fans at all. Several classes also have a mini television that installed permanently in the classroom but some other classes do not have a mini television inside the class so the teacher have to carry their personal mini television. The teacher use mini television as a projector when they want to display digital media such as videos or Power Point. The teacher also bring their personal mini microphone and speaker to modulate their voice while teaching in the class. The students (especially female) commonly wearing shoes cover to keep their class clean.
Teaching System
The students in DEIHS learn English four times a week with one hour duration at each meeting. There are five English teachers for grade 8 and each teacher handled approximately five classes. My cooperating teacher, Ms. Rachelle Anne B. De Guzman is also handling five classes: 8 Adelfa, 8 Gumamela, 8 Everlasting, 8 Dahlia, and 8 Daisy. But I only assisted her in three classes: Adelfa, Gumamela, and Everlasting. They use the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum for Grades 1 to 10 as the curriculum. The teachers in DEIHS commonly use student – centered learning in their class. My cooperating teacher also use this method. She is always make sure that the class in interactive and the the students are actively participating. She always let the students discover what they will learn instead of making the class more teacher – centered.
