The idea of my project was a cosmetology sculpture. It was to show what I want to do in the future, and an idea of everything that comes with it. It shows aspects of my personality by showing I love makeup and I love anything that has to do with cosmetology. The things I changed was I didn’t add the hair to it. I didn’t get it in time so I decided to leave it out of the project. My planning sketches were a little different then what the sculpture was. The process I used to model this sculpture was foam core, Sculptamold, cardboard, acrylic paint and aluminum foil. I used makeup brushes as a representation of cosmetology. The foam core was used to make the base to hold the head onto, and I used the Sculptamold to model the whole thing to form it. That brought the whole sculpture together. What I have learned through completing this project was how to create a model or self portrait of myself out of different things. The thing that was easiest about this project was once it came together it was easy to paint it. The most difficult part was trying to get the clay to stay on it and smooth it out without it falling or sliding off of the sculpture. The skills I needed to complete this will help me because if I decide to make another I know what I can do differently. Some things I would do differently is trying to smooth out the base of it in order to make it look more realistic.
The idea of my project was a rose that holds a candle in the middle. The changes I made were that I didn’t make the pedals go out so far. The middle is big enough to hold a candle or rings. The process for creating this sculpture was I started by choosing what I wanted to create and then sketched out my ideas on a piece of paper. We then used Plaster of Paris to create the main piece. After it hardened we started carving pieces away from the block to where it formed the idea I came up with. Last I used acrylic paint to give the piece color. I have learned that I should have carved as much away by the first two days. It hardened quickly and I wasn’t able to carve very much of it away by the third and fourth day. The easy part of this project was getting an idea of what I wanted to create. The difficult part was the carbing. This will help me in the future because If I decide to make candle holders or make a container to hold something this is a good project to practice with. My project has a bowl shaped form that I could put rings or change in.
