The things I've learned from this project is how to shade, figure out how to find the dimensions and draw those dimensions. The first step that I did was make the diorama using paper, hot-wheels and thin cardboard. Then next I made a rough draft and then transferred that rough draft onto a new piece of paper and color and shaded it. The meaning of my diorama/theme was to create a fight between the characters and the building caught on fire. I made the white building more three dimensional by shading and using 3D shapes, and I also shaded under the cars to make a cast shadow to make it look more realistic, and more like it was 3D. Improvements I made throughout this project was making the brick wall look like it was facing the right direction as it should be. That was probably the biggest improvement I made. I also improved the cast shadows as I went on, I made them darker like they were in the diorama.
I learned and fulfilled the requirements of this watercolor painting. I used a 2-point perspective for this painting, and had more than 50 orthogonals (lines that use a vanishing point). I learned that the more detailed the better it will turn out to be, but it is hard to do lots of detail because of the water color paints.
The concept I came up with in this painting was a city with a two point perspective, so you could see more of the buildings in a different perspective. I had come up with the stop light on a one way street because my painting needed more detail and the same idea with the green plants hanging by windows of a building. I wanted my painting to look calm and peaceful so I added a clear sky with some birds to give it a calming effect. I love the idea of old looking brick buildings and that is what gave me the idea of a couple brick buildings in my painting! So, in this painting I added more detail than I had planned but the overall idea turned out so much better with the birds, bricks, plants, the stoplight, and a crosswalk.
I asked my teacher and peers lots of questions throughout this project. I asked for their opinions and ideas. I got lots of great feedback. I was told it looked great throughout this project and I also asked my teacher if it looked good and she would tell me what to improve because it needed something, and what to not touch because it already looked good enough and didn’t need any more work. There were many challenging things to come with this painting and one of those was the shading. For me, shading is a very hard task to complete with watercolor paints. You have to have patience for it to dry and then once it dries you have to add another layer of paint if you want it to be darker. Another thing was getting the right lines to connect to the right vanishing point when I was drawing at the start of the project. Some lines are hard to draw to the right vanishing point because of the angle or the shape. Overall though, I did like doing this project because it was challenging, which I like, and it makes you come up with some great ideas! I’d say painting of the bricks, birds and windows was my favorite thing to paint in this project. In conclusion this project was a great experience and it was challenging and easy at times. If I could do it again I’d say I would still do 2-point perspective, but do a different scene.
