Intermediate Video
I proposed to do a video covering the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. I ended up accomplishing what I sat out to do. I additionally added a time lapse of me reading the book. I did the 360 of my book and the intro. Then I did a time lapse of me reading the book, and I discussed and reviewed the book. I only told the story of Percy Jackson. Some new skills I learned include: how to add cropping and transitions in my video, including exponential fades in the audios. I also learned how to manipulate and cut my clips, as well as add the videos as well as images. Some of the strengths of my work was making sure I was looking at the camera, to engage better with the audience. Some weaknesses include volume of audio at certain times. I think my time lapse and intro were fairly successful. Some challenges I faced with this project was finding the time to get the filming that I needed done. I didn’t exactly have very much time as far as softball season having started at about the same time. I might improve on a future long-term project by not putting it off, even if my schedule is more busy than usual.
Double Exposure
The photo above is an example of Panorama. I took 7 different photos using a tripod, and put them in Photoshop. Then, since when I took the photos I slightly overlapped the frames, Photoshop combined them into one long photo.
The photo to the left is an example of HDR (High Dynamic Range). I took multiple photos set at different exposures using a tripod and put them into Photoshop. Then Photoshop combined all the pictures to create this one picture.
Stop Motion Project
For this project I intended to do a collection of different Greek myths. However, even doing one was a lot more than I thought it would be. I was only able to complete one myth: Theseus and the Minotaur. Since I did the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, I had to include multiple scenes including getting Ariadne's string, traveling through the labyrinth, and Theseus slaying the minotaur. Since I chose to do the project on photoshop, I learned how to manipulate the layers to make it seem like a person was entering an entryway. Some things I could have done better was manipulating the characters arms when I was trying to bend them, and maybe making the action scene more of a fight. Some things I think I did well was portraying the whole of the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur, and finding a good song to go along with the animation that makes it feel more like a hero's story. Some challenges I faced when working on this project was trying to make the characters arms bend. I might improve on this point by trying to find a way to make the transition of a characters limbs bending/moving smoother, and more fluid.
In order to achieve subject blur and panning you first have to make sure the camera is on a mode where you can choose your shutter speed (Tv or manual). Then you have to figure out how high and low the shutter speed can go while still getting the correct exposure. For subject blur, then you just have to take a picture of the same object at different shutter speeds, but none of them can be shorter than 1/60 of a second. For panning, you have to manually select the focus point, click the shutter, then follow the subject to the best of your ability, hopefully having the subject in ficus with a background that is blurry; or at least more so than the subject.
In order to use shutter speed and aperture to bracket photos, I went to the menu of the camera and changed the setting. Then I would take three photos in a row, of the exact same photo, and it would automatically make the three photos under exposed, correctly exposed, and over exposed. Then, in order to do shutter speed bracketing, you would have to go on Tv mode and set the shutter speed while keeping in mind it can't be to fast or you won't be able to over expose the photo correctly later on. Same with the aperture. You would have to set the camera to Av mode, and selecct an aperture while keeping in mind that to small of an aperture won't let in the correct amount of light when you go to over expose the photo.
These photos demonstrate how aperture affects a photograph because a large aperture (f-4), to create a shallow depth of field. This means that only the subject in the photo, or everything else that is the same distance away from the camera as the subject, will be in focus. Using a large aperture creates selective focus. Due to this assignment, I have observed that in order to blur out everything other than the subject, it makes everything else brighter, and out of focus than the subject. A small aperture (f-29) will create a large depth of field, meaning everything will be in focus. ISO can have 2 different effects on a photograph. A low ISO (100) will make a photo less grainy, but it will also make it darker, to where you will have to use a slow shutter speed to get the correct exposure. A high ISO (6400) will make a photo more grainy, but it will also make the photo brighter, to where you can use a faster shutter speed.
For this assignment I picked flowers as my main subject, and picked Susan Phelps as my photographer. From the photographer, I learned that when taking pictures of flowers you should consider the subject from all angles, limiting background distractions (using selective focus), considering lighting, and filling the frame to the best of your ability.
Light and shadows is a form of photography technique that using shadows as the main focal point, or manipulating the shadows for different purposes.
Frame the subject is another photography technique used to draw focus to the subject, by caging in the focal point.
Filling the frame is another photography technique that allows for the focal point to really stand out.
High - Low camera angles can give a photo different views, and intended feelings.
The Rule of Thirds is a photography composition where the subject is aligned with an intersection if you were to make it a 3 x 3 grid.
