The descriptive lines I used in this drawing are smooth, calm, and thin. The drawing is very curvy and flowy, and the lines stay consistent with their shape. The hatching and cross hatching are used to show dark areas without shading. If the color was taken away, you could still see the shaded areas and tell which parts are darker. For the darkest parts, I used cross hatching. For the lighter shading, I used regular hatching. For the coloring, I put in maximum effort to be sure that the coloring was clear and also displayed feeling just as the lines did. I made the coloring clean and I used bright colors.
The descriptive lines I used in my second drawing are jagged and shaky. I used these lines to convey a feeling of anxiety, fear, or anger. The lines stay inconsistent, rushed and messy. In this piece, akin to the first, I used hatching and cross hatching. For the coloring, I tried to make it seem very rushed and unclear. The colors are still a bit vibrant, but they aren’t blended and displayed the same as the first piece. The coloring is much more messy and seemingly unplanned.
In my art project, I was tasked with carving a linoleum block with the purpose of showing texture in an image of my choice. In my project, I chose a photo of a yawning lion. To show texture in my artwork, I carved lots of messy fur on the lion. I also showed a rough texture in the lion’s tongue. I was able to show this texture of hair by creating different sized carvings, so that it would appear more natural when I printed it. I chose this texture because I thought it would be a very fun challenge, and I represented it through one of my favorite animals.
In the printmaking process, I first printed my lightest color onto the linoleum block. Then, I transferred it to a piece of paper. Afterwards, I carved all the lightest parts. Once finished, I printed my medium color. Then, I carved away the darkest parts of the photo on the block. Finally, I printed my last color. This is a reduction print because the shapes are more simple and reduced than the realistic photograph. My artwork is a relief print because I carved away the different parts and transferred them to a sheet of paper. In printmaking, registration refers to the particular placement of the block when printed on paper. It is important to alight each print, that way the artwork will finish clean.
In my opinion, the most difficult part about this project was the carving of the block. The photograph that I picked had lots of texture, which was quite intimidating later on when I had the task of carving. Despite this, I think this was the most successful part of the project. I worked hard to show texture in my print and have good craftsmanship throughout the process of this project. Overall, I enjoyed doing this project and had fun despite the troubles and failures that came along with it.
My family is very unique and different from other families. My biological parents are divorced, so I currently live with my step dad. We do not always get along, and I sometimes resent him for his silly and childish decisions. I love my mother very much, despite her being different from some other people. She has extremely colorful hair, and a varying clothing style. I’m so lucky to have someone as caring and thoughtful as her. She is very beautiful. I represented her in my sculpture with her favorite color, lime green. I put her in a hole where my step dad sits. This is because when she is gone, he goes a bit crazy sometimes without her. I have two cats that I love very much. They are adorable and cuddly. For both of them, I used a similar shape, rounded at the bottom and sharp at the top. This is to represent how they are nice, but can also be mean. Luci’s shape resembles a claw, because he usually scratches up our furniture. Alina is a very nice kitty. She is always begging for attention, and sometimes I wake up to her by my side. My boyfriend is incredibly sweet and thoughtful. Any positive adjective you can think of, that is what he is. I couldn’t possibly ask for anybody better, and I think my family agrees.
In my sculpture, I depicted 6 figures of my family. My mom, my dad, my two cats, myself, and my boyfriend. I consider my boyfriend to be a part of my family. We all share many interests and similarities, such as favorite shows, characters, and music. My dad is the big strong one, but he also needs my mom to stay stable. My cat Alina is closest to my parents, because she sleeps in their room at night. My cat Luci is closest to me, because he loves and trusts me more than anyone else.
In this sculpture, I used lots of symbolism. To begin with, I left gaping holes where my eyes should be. This is kind of a metaphor for feeling very blind when I don’t wear my glasses. I also left it almost colorless, symbolizing my feelings of being impressionable like a young child. I covered it in vines and flowers, symbolizing my love for nature and all things related.
First, I used cardboard and foam core to build the structure of the sculpture. Afterwards, I began adding the sculptamold. It took many layers, because I accidentally made it too big. After I finished covering it completely, I began adding my details. When the base of the sculpture was finally finished, I began painting. I added vines and tropical flowers, which I really like.
I’ve had to learn better time management, because this project took lots of time and effort. I’ve also had to learn relative human proportions so it didn’t look like an alien. It actually helped me in my own personal art. This project was difficult because of the texture of the sculptamold mixture. It also dries quickly and was just a hassle to use, but the end result was worth the struggle. I think the easiest part was the painting, because I am more experienced in painting.
