"The lines in these artworks are descriptive, meaning they describe an emotion. In Artwork 1 the lines are jagged and sharp. While in Artwork 2 the lines are smooth and curve ever so slowly. These two artworks show the same item but cause completely different emotions. This shows how powerful the types of lines you use are."
"The lines in Artwork 1 represent 'exciting' and 'unpredictable'. I wanted to express the layer of unpredictability and action that books have. I thought that a line that was always changing quickly and suddenly would describe the unpredictable. In Artwork 2 the lines are a lot smoother which shows 'calm' and 'peaceful'. I wanted this to express how books bring a calming, peaceful emotion to the reader."
"Artwork 2 is successful to me because it has fewer mistakes. I accept the fact mistakes but Artwork 2 has fewer imperfections and overall I find it better. The lines just seem more effective and descriptive."
"In a relief print you carve out a block, in this case linoleum, and you cut one section at a time. Then you apply ink to the block and stamp it onto a piece of paper. In my relief print I made a fox."
"My artwork is succesful because it looks like a fox. This is the one that turned out the best. The other 5 are either not lined up well or the last stamp pulled away a few layers of prevous ink. This one turned out the best and I'm rather proud of it."
"In this project we made drawings of places we found interesting. I chose the London Eye because I’ve always wanted to go to London. After we made our realistic drawing that we went over with black marker we then painted it. Afterwards we made an abstract piece of the same place. We repeated the marker and painting step before moving onto our photoshop piece. We got on the computers and onto photoshop, while on photoshop we used multiple tools to make the same place one finale time.
It’s not that realistic so not a lot of detail but I think it has plenty of them. The placement is decent and everything's in its place but the ferris wheel feels like it took up a lot of space. The linear perspective in these pieces are decent and I really like it. The size of everything seems right and I really like it. The overlapping is nice, there’s a few mistakes here and there."
"A few Improvements I made to my work was when I did my realistic artwork. My buildings looked really close together and it looked like they were one big building so I made little dark streaks on my photoshop piece which helped a lot. Then in my abstract piece I made small gaps between the buildings. I also changed the road as I went on. In my first two pieces the road faded behind the first building but in my abstract I made the road go into the horizon line. but in the end it seems fine. There isn’t a lot of aerial perspective but there is a little and I think it looks nice."
"There are five people in my family, but my sculpture is only three of them. Me and my siblings are very different. They’re very sporty and kind of extroverted while I’m more introverted and education based. My brother and sister both have curly hair, like my dad, while I have more straight hair that’s from neither of my parents. They also have a close relationship to each other and I’m basically just their little brother. My sister and brother are both the strong ones since neither are really reliable, but I’m the tender one since I’ll listen to what they need to talk about if they’ll open up. My family is really involved in the community while at the same time taking okay care of their kids."
"My sculpture’s size shows my siblings from shortest to tallest. The pink is my sister who is the shortest, the blue is me who is close to being the tallest but not quite there, and the green is my brother who is the tallest by an inch or two. The sculpture broken down into its original shapes are connected by the geometric sides that represent how we’re related by blood but the organic sides show how we grew as our own people despite growing up in the same environment. The sculpture has an open form in each section, my sister had three to show she’s the oldest but one got accidentally covered, my brother has two to show he’s the middle child, and I have one since I’m the youngest. The sculpture is asymmetrical because it doesn’t reflect perfectly, while yes me and my siblings are alike, we grew differently and have different personalities."
"I don’t think that my craftsmanship was the best but I think I put work into it and that the craftsmanship is pretty good. I think that the expressive parts are rather good, sometimes it’s a little hard to get but I think it’s the better part of this project. I struggled when cutting the foam I accidentally kept cutting at an angle so it worried me that it’d mess it all up. The hardest part was when putting the paper on because it dried on my finger and made it a little more difficult for movement, it also wouldn't stay down. The painting was the easiest since I was used to painting, it didn’t hurt to have a canvas that light colors stuck to easily. I had to get rid of a hole in the pink section since it was so small but I think it looks better without it. I don’t think there’s really any parts that need improvement since it’s the basic idea that I had in mind. This project is 3D so it’s a little hard to compare to a 2D piece of art but I really like it, it feels more real in every sense of the word. I like how I can look at it from all angles yet it is still there."
"The song Brother by Kodaline is about siblings that talks about how they’re siblings but different, though they would still do anything for each other. Both pieces focus on the topic of siblings and how even when they grow apart they still are attached to each other. My sculpture and the song both share the main topic of siblings like I stated not too long ago. The song talks about how if the other was drowning, dying, how he’d give his lungs, his life to save them. While I love my siblings and would happily give my life for them I’m not always sure they’d do the same."
For my project I wanted to make a sculpture of me in blue scrubs with an airpod in my ear and a smile on my face. These seemingly random things are actually things that make me up, the airpod is my love music, the scrubs are to represent my love of medicine, and the smile is supposed to show my bubbly personality. I never got the time for the airpod, but I did do everything else
First we cut some foam along with some cardboard to make the base and shoulders. Next we made our shape with newspaper before covering it all in foil to help the plaster stick. Afterwards we used sculpt-a-mold to form the more difficult details like our hair, eyes, nose, and mouth. Finally we painted the sculpture to look like us.
Something easy about this project was probably the cutting of the foam because we’ve practiced it before making it slightly easier. Something more difficult was definitely the sculpting, it’s really difficult to make the human face since it’s so complex. These skills could help in the future if I wanted to become an architect since it takes the process of designing and balancing.
Organic Abstract
My inspiration was the person that was a close friend, Ayla. She was a strong girl who was taken from us at a young age sadly, but my art is the way I like to remember her. We called her Bird there for I made a bird sculpture. The original plan didn’t have a floral wreath and it had two strips, but the one I made clearly doesn’t. It also was designed with legs, but I went against that for the sake of my sanity.
First we found reference photos and drew some pictures of what we wanted to sculpt. Next we got a block of plaster and started carving it into a desired shape. Then we smoothed it with sandpaper before dusting the leftover particles off. Finally we painted the sculpture and covered it with a clear layer of polish like paint.
The easiest part of this project was definitely the painting part, the most difficult part was definitely the carving. These skills could help me out in the future if I ever wanted to be a paleontologist because it’s the same concept of chiseling away unwanted parts attached to the preferred item, you have to carve with precision and care.
