Family Sculpture Reflection

Dynamics and Personality Family
In my sketches i have represented my brother my father and me. This sculpture represents The relationship we all have. My brother is very close to me not so much my dad is very close to me while me in the middle am very close to both. My dad and my brother fight a lot so in the sculpture i made is to wehrer is kinda looks like im holding the family together. My dad has kind of this very tall strong figure and hes very serious but he helps people out anytime he can. My brother is this very courageous, protecting type he's very strong on the inside but very tender on the outside.
How Sculpture Expresses Family Members and Relationships
My sculpture represents 3 members of my family, me, my brother, and my father. My fathers shape is very tall and strong while also being outgoing and very caring for other, my shape expresses my love for music and my connection to my family. And lastly my brothers shape being tall protective and sensitive. This part of my family has the strongest bond i would say while my mother and my sister arent too close to me.
Evaluation of Sculpture
I mostly struggled with the brainstorming part of this project and then drawing part. The easiest for was probably the painting for me but the whole project was complicated.
Compare and Contrast Family Theme with another Art Form
I think the art work “family group” represents family just like mine does, it has three figures in it just like mine. The figure in the middle represents me and the one on the far left would represent my brother while the last one would represent my dad.
The idea I had for this project was, coming out of a negative dark hole and finally finding people who care for me, and people who help me.
The process of the sculpture started out with planning, brainstorming, and sketching, I started out by planning out a vision in my head in order to plan it out on paper. After the sketches, it was a matter of building. I used cardboard, foam core, and newspaper. After I was done building I used aluminum foil for the Sculpt-A-Mold to stick well to the figure.
While working on this project I have learned how to sculpt parts of the face and shoulders using the Loomis head method. The most difficult part about this project what probably making the head and actually getting it to look like a head. I learned how to make things i didnt know I could make.
My inspiration for this project was rocks, the “checkpoint” rocks that you might see stacked on the beach or by a trail. A couple of changes I have made from my original idea were the rocks' shape and look of the rocks. The plaster shape I had chosen was too big and I couldn't carve it to the shape I needed. The process of creating this sculpture was rather difficult. As the day went by the plaster kept getting harder, and harder and was not very easy to carve through. The painting part was fun but that was always the best part. During this project, I have learned that plaster is very tough to carve through. And don't cut towards your hand because I also got a couple of injuries from the tools I was using.
