The lines I used in my first drawing are sharp and fast. The lines are skinny and the sharp edges are very frequent.
The mood in the first drawing is fast. The lines show this mood by going up and down with sharp edges multiple times in a short space.
For this project we were tasked with putting three different colored prints onto a single piece of paper to create one singular artwork. I showed simulated texture on this artwork. I showed this texture by making it an artwork of a dog. I chose this texture because it seemed like it would go with my artwork the best.
During the printmaking process u print however many colors you're doing onto a single block. I did three colors so I had to print three different colors. This is a reduction print because I reduced an image into three colors. This is a relief print because I printed the three colors onto my block to make my picture. Registration means applying a picture onto a print.
I learned how to make a relief print throughout this project. Making sure the block and paper were perfectly lined up was the most challenging part of this project. I think I succeeded at making the colors.
There are four people in my family. My family is all similar when it comes to humor but different when it comes to our ages. The personalities of my parents are similar and the personalities of me and my sister are also similar. We get along with each other very well. My dad is the funny one, my mom is the protective one, my sister is the smart one, and I’m the chill one. Even though we are all one thing more than the rest, we are all funny, protective, smart, and chill which makes my family unique.
I made the shape for my sister geometric and straight edged to represent her smarts. The shape for my dad was organic and both straight edged and curvy to show his humor. The shape for my mom was organic and curvy to show her caring and protective nature. The shape I made for me was organic and geometric to show my smarts and chill nature. The shapes are all stacked together to show how connected everyone in my family is. The shapes are also dependent on one another to stay stood up to show how much we all mean to each other. The sculpture is asymmetrical because of the wide differences in the shapes.
My craftsmanship was the best part of my sculpture. I think this because while the shapes expressed my family well, I was very impressed with my craftsmanship. The part of the sculpture that I struggled with the most was the paper mache. This is because in some areas of the sculpture it was difficult to apply paper mache. The easiest part of this project was cutting out the shapes needed to create it. An improvement I made while creating this sculpture was making the shapes more defined and well made. If I had more time I would improve the paint on the sculpture. This project compared to other projects I have done is better quality and has better communication ideas. This is because this is the first sculpture I have done and it has more meaning than any other project I have done.
A non visual artwork that also uses the theme of family is “Family” by The Chainsmokers. This song uses the theme of family very similarly to my sculpture because some of the lyrics talk about sticking together and being a lifeline for each other. My sculpture and this song are similar in that way because they both create a feeling of needing to stay together and support each other. This song heavily used the same feeling of staying together that my sculpture used. The song gives the message that you and your family should always stick together and help each other through things which is what my sculpture portrays. The song does this with certain lyrics in it. My sculpture and this song differ in their communication because my sculpture is visual and the song is audible.
The lines I used in my second drawing are wavy and don’t have sharp edges. The lines are thicker than the ones in the first drawing.
The mood in the second drawing is slow. The lines show this mood because unlike the first drawing the lines in this drawing go up and down slowly and don’t have sharp edges.
For this project we found a place on google maps and made a realistic, abstract, and digital artwork of it using water colors. I made the realistic version by adding as much detail as I could on the paper. After the realistic artwork we made the abstract version of the realistic artwork. I did this by taking some objects and making them bigger or smaller and removing some of the detail. Finally I made the digital version of this artwork. I did this by going on photoshop and basing it off of the realistic version.
On my realistic artwork, the green of the grass was darker towards the bottom of the artwork and lighter towards the top, showing the distance becoming farther. I used a pen to outline the windows on a building to make it show through the paint. I placed objects that were closer towards the bottom of the paper, and objects farther away towards the top of the paper. On the white path with the grass areas, I made the lines get closer and closer as they got farther. I made the Washington Monument the biggest object in the artwork because it’s closest and I made the building in the back smaller because it’s far in the distance. I made the Washington Monument overlap the grass, roads, and other things in the background. The grass gets lighter in the distance, showing aerial perspective.
An improvement I made was redoing the Washington Monument a couple times. This was a major improvement because my first couple designs for it were either too big, too small, or not in the right spot on the paper. I believe that if I didn’t make this improvement, my artwork would’ve looked worse.
The idea behind my project was for my neck and head to be normal and realistic but then have a forty five pound plate from a gym as the support at the bottom. This sculpture expresses aspects of my interests because I like to work out. From my planning sketches to my actual structure I didn’t make any changes.
To model this sculpture I first used bristol board to make most of the support which was the stick that my head and neck would be on and the plate at the base of the structure. I then used cardboard to wrap around the sides of the plate to close it off and make the structure more stable. After that I created the head by making a big ball of newspaper and taping it onto the structure. Next I added a jawline using more newspaper and pieces of cardboard. After adding the jawline the head was complete and I started putting sculptamold on the entire structure. Finally, when the structure was completely covered in mold, I painted it.
Throughout this project I learned how to sculpt a human head. The easiest part of this project was making the support structure that the head and everything else would be on. The hardest part of this project was painting it because the rough texture of the mold made it to where there were many white spots after painting. The skills needed for this project could help me in the future if I ever decide to make a sculpture again.
The idea and inspiration for my project was a cave entrance with vines around it. During the process of making my sculpture I made two changes. One change I made was not adding vines on the front and only adding them on the sides and back. Another change I made was making the vines different lengths.
The process for creating this sculpture first started with us getting a block of plaster. After getting my plaster I carved out the cave. I then carved down the sides and back and left some parts sticking out to make the vines. After everything was carved I then painted the sculpture.
Through completing this project, I learned how to make a carving. The easiest part of this sculpture was carving out the actual cave. The most difficult part was getting rid of all the white spots with the paint. The skills needed to complete this sculpture might help me in the future if I ever want to make a carving.
