In my sculpture, there are three representations of my family within it. My sculpture represents My mom, Grandma, and me all in one big shape. We all love each other and get along pretty well; I would say that I am the loud one always making noise, which is why part of my sculpture represents music and noise. My mother is the one who always runs around and claims she needs a break, that's why she loves the beach so much, and that's what the curved part of my shape represents, a wave from the beach for my mom. The final shape represents my grandma who works all the time like my mom, even when she is retired she still works more than she should; that is why the shape is a box, representing her work. My family is very unique because even though we are all very different we still manage to work together well with each other.
My sculpture is very organic, it has a long curve on the side and two sharp edges on the top. The only geometric shape is the rectangle on the bottom left side. The curve connects perfectly with the sharp point on the top, and the rectangle makes a perfect base for the sculpture allowing it to look even and easy. There is negative space in my sculpture where I put a hole in the square; it leads from one side to the other. My sculpture has an asymmetrical balance because neither sides are equal but it still all works together making it balanced. My sculpture makes a beautiful representation of what my family together looks like; even though we are all different, we make it work.
The craftsmanship I did to make my sculpture was good, but the best part of my sculpture was the thought and creative ideas I had to make this sculpture come to life. I think anybody can recreate what my sculpture looks like, but only I can have the ideas to make it look how it does and bring it to life. I think I did an amazing job in expressing how my family looks in shape and what it looks like together. The only thing that I struggled with was cutting and getting my shapes the way I wanted them to be because of how asymmetrical they were. If I could improve anything I would paper mache a little better and get deeper into the fine lines of it all. Compared to my other projects I would say this is one of my better art projects because of how deep my passion was for this sculpture.
I think that my sculpture is kind of like an orchestra because even though many different instruments make different sounding noises, they all come together in perfect harmony sounding beautiful in people's ears. I say this because my sculpture shows many different shapes representing many different things, but they come together and make a beautiful representation out of them.
