During this assignment, I learned about how changing any shape into a simpler, geometric form, can drastically affect the mood and overall feel of your artwork. I saw how my shapes looked from different perspectives, which was really cool and way different from a lot of the art I’ve made in the past. This style really challenged me a lot because I have never done anything like this before, however, I really like the way it turned out and I will likely revisit this style in the near future.
My typical artwork that I do is much different than the Cubist style, nevertheless I definitely want to incorporate Cubism in my future art. I found the style very interesting and surprisingly easy. No art style is easy, but this one is a bit simpler to break down and understand. Cubism also has its levels of complexity, but I think that there is a pretty good balance between the two. I always like to add my own personal flare to every piece of art I create and I won’t let my work see daylight if it doesn’t feel right. I like my work to feel like it’s my work, and not just a carbon copy of someone else’s. That’s a big reason I like Cubism so much because it’s easy to add my own quirks to it while still keeping the original overall style.
While some parts seemed relatively easy, this was a challenge. Once I got a hold of how to do my gradients, I really liked them and tried to have some fun with them. However, I found making realistic shadows and shading to be a bit of a challenge, since I’m used to only using led pencils or pen. I found it hard to keep a sense of realism relevant in this piece because of all my difficulties with the shading. Eventually I found a rhythm and I think I did a pretty good job overall. I was really proud of the actual lines and drawing part because I’ve always found drawing people difficult, so this was definitely an achievement for me.
