Welcome to Sunnyside Elementary School Library Learning Commons. I am looking forward to a wonderful year in the library with your children. Together we will research, learn about digital citizenship and online safety, explore digital tools, be innovative in our Maker Space, learn about coding and computer science , and appreciate the wonderful stories in our collection. There are links to programs that are frequently used by our students and other useful information. I encourage all students to use the Live Links to access typing.com, Near Pod, and Code.org. Keyboarding is a district milestone in grades 3, 5 and 7. All schools will assess the students WPM (words per minute) and accuracy. The goal for grade 3 is 20 WPM and 95% accuracy by the end of the year.
I would love to have parent volunteers help in the library. Volunteers may help with checking books in/out, re-shelving materials, or creating book displays. Maybe you have a special talent that you may want to share! If you are interested in helping on a on weekly basis or would like to come in for a day, please contact me by email at: jtichy@sheltonpublicschools.org. I will attach links for you to review and use to assist you with your children.

Unit 4: Knowledge Constructor - Students will participate in project based learning. They will learn to use online data bases and sites to locate information. They will present this information in many forms. Students may choose reports, pictures and maybe they will take advantage of our new video production room.
